I posted on Monday about the new crowntail I picked up. He was really perky when I put him in the 10 gallon with my snail, but he quickly got sluggish. Today he was doing some serious bottom sitting (hiding behind my snail actually tongue.gif) and, though it's really hard to tell b/c of his elaborate fins, they seem to be a bit tattered and clamped.

I usually medicate new bettas automatically because they always seem to have problems, but with this guy I didn't. Well, I got nervous and put him in a spare 5 gallon with salt and maracin-plus. Think this was the right thing to do? He seems hapy enough in there, AND it's easier for him to find his food. He didn't seem to be looking for any at all in the 10 gallon, I guess he wasn't used to all the space (poor little guy).

maybe it was too big a tank for him, going from a small container and all.If it looks like he has fin or tail rot I would do the salt and a melafix regimen. Melafix or bettafix combined with salt and a temp around 78 is on really good way to combat tail and fin rot along with pristine water and frequent water changes.

Thanks betta queen. He definatly seems happier today in the smaller tank, he's blowing bubbles and swimming around more in general. I didn't think of melafix at all unsure.gif but I guess I'll stick with the maracin now that it's in there.

o.k. It is just that tail and fin rot in bettas usuaully responds better to melafix. I guess see how things go. If he is blowing bubble nests then he is feeling better, it means he is happy
