Two days ago I got two new fish. One I am sure is a Black Kuhli Loach. However, the second one I'm not so sure about. It looks like the black one, except it is a considerably lighter color than the black, sort of a tan color. It is the same shape and size as the black one, about three inches long. I'm just not sure what he is. I know for certain that he's a type of loach, but he dosen't look quite like either of my other two Kuhlis (I also have a regular colored one in my twenty gallon, these two are in my ten), or my considerably larger dojo loach (these guys look like strands of spaghetti compared to that fat thing, lol). Can anyone help?

You go to your photobucket account and click on the browse thing in the upload part and then hunt for your file. Images don't upload if they are bmp. format.

Okay, Dan. Thanks for your help. I'll get a picture up once I'm able to take one.

Sounds like a light colored black kuhli to me.

A picture would help. Also keeping one by itself is not wise, they like to school.

Um, he's not by himself. I think I mentioned earlier that there's two of them.

Oh, you ment Speedy (thats his name, lol). Yeah, I know, I was actually going to add the black one and the whatever the other one is into the twenty, but lately my twenty gallon has been having problems. It's got some kind of thing going on with the water, it's all cloudy and grody looking. Just read my topic "Filter Cartridges". It'll explain it all. Anyway, I didn't want to risk putting these new fish into that tank just to make sure they stay alright. Don't worry, I'll get Speedy his new buddies as soon as the tank is under control. Cool user name, are you a fellow loach adict?

Black or a brown. I used to be and plan on getting about 5 more khulis soon for my planted tank. Glad you are not putting fish in if something is possible wrong. Cookies for you!!

I love loaches. They are so COOL! I have three tropical tanks, all together I have a yo-yo loach, a skunk loach, a dojo loach, and three kuhlis (I suppose that's what the mystery one is) distributed throughout my three tropical tanks. You said something about a brown kuhli loach, I didn't know they had a brown color phase. That must be what he is since the black one is so much darker in color than him. Sushi could be right also, it could be a black one that just dosen't have as intense color as the other one. Thanks for your help!

"Black kuhli" doesn't always refer to its color. Its just a common name. Pangio oblonga can range from a cream color all the way to a dark coffee color. A close up of the face would be more useful in IDing him.

There is several color variations of the Khuli loach such as the common ones as in just Khuli Loach and Black Khuli but there are several and I mean SEVERAL others that are not as common. I am sure it's a black but there is brown and red and so many other colors that it's amazing.

Well, considering that I bought him for $4.99, I really don't think he's some rare breed of kuhli loach, so I think you're right, Sushi, it's probably just a black kuhli with lighter markings. I know what you mean, kind of like how blue crayfish can be anywhere from a neon blue to a dull brownish-blue, right? Thanks for your help, guys.
