I was thinking of putting some plants in the tank - but something that the goldfish would find good to eat. If it were a growing plant, it would be doing good things to the tank and not just fouling the water like a piece of lettuce might. Any suggestions?

You can get it from lfs. QT and then culture it by yourself. With appropriate lighting, they multiply like crazy.

+1 on everything Fred said. Plants can not bring bacterial problems in but can bring parasite eggs which is why you must qt it with several bleach dips. Any fine leaf plant will turn into a goldie smorgasbord.

Maybe it would be easier to buy some green vegetables from the supermarket. Wash it before feed to the fish.

That's true. But I want to follow some Japan and Thai masters' method of feeding duckweed to goldfish.

I wish I can afford to buy a big house, so I can start piling up fish tanks in the basement.
Oh well.. wishful thinking.. You guys don't want to know the price of a single family house in Queens.. It's ridiculus..

Apparently I'm in an circumstance that I couldn't move out my neighborhood. Lots family related issues..
But honestly, I have been living here for a very long time n it's so convenience to shop and commute. In addition, there are several fish stores in my neighborhood.

I have duckweed growing in my 5 gallon RCS tank. About once a week I'll scoop a couple of tablespoonfuls and feed the goldfish. They love it and this dose of fresh veggie has the same effect as feeding peas. 32 BIT Where in Queens do you live? I live in Flushing and during the past 15 years housing prices have sky rocketed. I don't even think there are too many single family houses in my neighborhood anymore.
