So, I'm thinking about buying another tank so I can have guppies, and I think that a tank "kit" might be my best option because of price. I was thinking of something like this: 12 gallon kit @ Pet Co

I have a 10-gallon tank now, with neon tetras and zebra danios. I might move them into the new tank, and put guppies in the 10 gallon.

Do you have any reccomendations on aquarium kits? Would this plan work? Also, how many guppies could I put in a 10 or 12 gallon?

the page isnt working. I find that the hagen waterhome kits r pretty good and they come with just about everything u need.

All of my tanks were 'kit' tanks, I like getting them best because you get the tank and the hood, plus sometimes some plants maybe a net and some dechlor. If you buy a hood by itself they can cost about 30 bucks for the 20-29 gallon tanks, so I think it is a much better deal to get the 'kit'.

EDIT:Also, the general rule for stocking tropical tanks I use is start out with five gallons for your first fish, then add one gallon of water for each additional inch of adult fish.

Example, if you have a 15 gallon tank and your adult fish are going to be two inches long you will have room for six fish (one in the inital five gallons plus 5 more @ two gallons per fish equals out to 15 gallons).

Cool! I'm glad I got positive responses. Definitely sounds like a kit is the best way to go for me.

Link Again <--- Try that link, and if it still doesn't work, it's supposed to be a link to a page about the "Marineland Eclipse System 12" aquarium kit. Google it if you really want to see it. idont.gif

I'll have to see what Mom and Dad say about this.... I think I'll ask first about having a second tank, then if I get the go-ahead, I'll get more information on guppies, figure out cycling the new tank, and deciding where I'll house my fish. smile.gif

I have had the Eclipse 12 for over 2 years and it is very convenient to run. The only drawback is that the standard light it comes with is pretty low wattage and is only barely enough to keep low light plants. However, if it is a fish only tank then it is adequate. Are you planning to purchase from the site in your link? I think you will get a better bargain if you shop around other web sites (try Drs Foster and Smith and Big Al's).

No, I'm not planning on buying from that website, we looked in a pet store in our town, and they had really good prices on Tetra brand tank kits. I think I'm gonna go with the 20 gallon kit from them.
