Does anyone know which company makes Pro-Gold? I want to tell my LFS, so they can order it for me.

No wonder I couldn't find it in any of my LFS. wink.gif

They send you a nice big bag, it ought to last a while. My fishies love it.
D-Links
how many pellets do you guy feed to one goldfish?? my goldfish is about 2" long ranchu.
and i gave him like 5 pellets a day.
Tinkokeshi
i give em as many as they'll eat in about 5 mins or so... which is a lot. but i've got a tank full of fatties.

for a 2" fish i'd say half a teaspoon. they chew on the pellets for a while, but they eventually all disappear and become nice poo sausages. tongue.gif

i personally would feed more than 5 a day... or if you like feeding 5 at least do it 2 or 3 times a day. smile.gif

I just ordered some Pro-gold from the goldfishconnection.com. I heard good things about it.

For those of you who feed this to your goldfish already, does it really make them grow fast and stay really healthy?
Tinkokeshi
well i find that my fish grow fast in general if they're fed a high protein diet.

staying healthy has to do with a lot of stuff though, water quality, food quality, genetics...

biggrin.gif my goldies love pro-gold though. absolutely LOOOOVE it!!! and they are all fat aqua babies if that's any indication. tongue.gif
D-Links
i like to give him like 2-3 pellets to him that he can see.
and just toss like 4-5 pellets randomly behind him so he can search for it later in the day..
Chrissy_Bee
I have 'medium' sized goldies and they get about 7 or 8 pellets each, once or twice a day.
I recently started feeding progold, before that I fed Hikari lion head and I saw amazing growth with that. One thing I really like about the progold is that it doesn't really need to be presoaked like other pellets.

As for the big bag the progold comes in, yes, it's huge! I put mine in the fridge and kept a small container out near my fish tank. I'm hoping that will keep it fresh because it's going to take my fish a LONG time to eat all that.
D-Links
really?? you put them in fridge ?!

Yep, I remembered reading on here somewhere that it can prolong the shelf life.

Chrissy the fridge is one of the worst places to store dry foods as the condensation will create moisture inside. As a matter of fact, in his website, Rick the owner of GFC(who sells the Progold) specifically states not to store the foods in the fridge.
Chrissy_Bee
Yikes! Thanks for the info, I could have swore I read that on here somewhere

*gone to take it out of the fridge right now*
Tinkokeshi
i'm pretty sure you can just store it in a dark dry place... like under the tank. =)

I've had employees of pet stores tell me to store goldfish food in the refrigerator. I'm glad that I heard it here that it's not a good idea. I'm new here and have heard of ProGold before but those of you here who have had goldfish a long time would highly recommend this food? Is it real expensive? unsure.gif

Yes cool dry place in a airtight container is best.

Here is a link from Rick on food storage.

Progold is an excellent food. It contains all the essential nutrients necessary for your goldie to thrive and grow. It also contains the probiotics necessary to culivate and harbor the good bacteria that your goldies needs to have in their digestive system. It's not cheap, but not too expensive and in this case you certainly get what you pay for. My goldies love it!

Is there expiration date on the Pro-Gold? I'm not sure how much should I get... I am getting TWO fish from connection soon.. so I might not need much of food. But I will get more fish once I move.

I like it with Ramen and splash of black sesame oil myself.

It's kind of funny, as my three goldfish have always been friends...They bump each other out of the way when they are eating the Pro-Gold sinking pellets off the bottom...I guess they like it!

My goldie is a bit of a dietary floater so I thought I would try Pro-Gold because I have heard such great things about it... and it came today!! Hooray! krazy.gif
Mooshu went bananas at dinner time.

My fingers are crossed for no floating biggrin.gif

The air releases from the pellets by the time it hits the bottom of my long 39 gallon, so I am keeping my fingers crossed also.
I feel it should help, since Mooshu will be getting less air into his stomach.
Keep us informed biggrin.gif

Thanks Brandon!

I tried feeding him a few different brands of sinking pellets and presoaked them for a few minutes before feeding time, but I guess he has a sensitive system...
So far no floating with Pro-Gold! smile.gif

The goldfish connection also has the salad supreme wafers that I'd like to try sometime soon... those look great too!

I wish I could get some pro-gold food it sounds so good. I emailed the Fish Sempai but the shipping costs were just too much. sad.gif

Tell me about it! tongue.gif Although, that may be more expensive than the shipping!

I just ordered a bag of pro gold. I'm excited to get it.

I looked at all the pet stores in my neighborhood and the only sinking food I could find was algae wafers.

I'm sure Frilly will love the pro gold. Hopefully it will help with her occasional constipation.

A bit more expensive...But you coulld have a nice holiday over here...The weather is beautiful!
Valerie
I got my progold today and I am so happy! biggrin.gif

Frilly LOVES her new food and her poop is already looking back to normal. I was so happy to see a nice healthy fat looking poop today!

If not for Koko's I would never have found out about progold.

Thanks everyone!

Glad we were able to help out. I would suggest anything from Goldfishconnection. I recently just bought the Krill and the shrimp pellets and my goldfish love that stuff also. I switch back and forth with the shrimp and krill in the morning and feed the Pro-Gold at night.
I throw in a mid-day snack of Algea Waffers. Though when I get home for Summer Break from college I want to start experimenting with fruits and vegtables biggrin.gif
