I have always had bird feeders in the yard. Now that we're planning a pond, I'm thinking that I don't want the bird feeders near the pond, so the birds do not foul the water. But I was wondering if anybody had any particular experiences, or knowledge of particular problems that I am likely to have keeping both the birds and the fish happy.

bird droppings can carry some parasites, but as long as the birds aren't pooping in the water there shouldn't be any issues with that.

I figure on having my basalt rock part of the waterfeature that the wakins or shubbies will be in this summer. The rock is bowled and I know birdies will use it for bathing. I will keep a close eye on the fish for parasite reactions. I'd not take away the birdie bath or their food

My Mums partner has a large pond in his garden and feeds the birds. The pond is in a corner, so he feeds the birds in the middle of the garden away from it, he has never had any problems.
So long as you try to feed away from the pond area you should be ok, I get birds drinking from my pond, and no problems there either.
Good luck with your new project!

I find that I get way more birds with the pond since it is a big water source. I don't have problems with bird poop in the pond just the dropped worm every now and then. Birds love to bath in one of the waterfalls.
