Here is one type. They are a Malawian Cichlid and there are several color variations. Just browse that site under the Malawian area to see them.

I'm always a fan of cichlid tanks(lots of rocks!!) and yours looks very nice, but for some reason I'm not actually attracted to most cichlids. Other than jags, eye biters and rams I've always found the rest ugly. Isn't that weird? I think it is.

Lol! I used to not be attracted to them as well. Have you ever kept any others besides them? The reason they are so popular is thier personalities. One of the neatest to keep is an oscar. I think every aquariast should atleast keep one oscar to know fish do have a personality.

I used to have a couple big Ocars in a 55 gallon. They have good personalities but those guys are dirtier than goldfish.

Yea I know, I ran 2 penguin 350's and a Rena XP4 on my tank for my oscar and severum.

I believe its generally the colors that deter me and the way they act. Most are blinding and they are always so "hyper".

I've never personally owned an oscar but I've cared for an albino and normal while some family members went on vacation. Oscars remind me of goldfish. They interact with humans about the same.Oscars are great fish, but still not on my list of fav cichlids. Jags are similar, but IMO, calmer than oscars and I always drool over there colors.

They are supper aggressive to. I would love to keep a jag tank.

Yes, of course. By calm I meant less active/more elusive around people but they can be just as mean when given the chance. Oscars are kind of like " OH HI!!!! LOOK AT ME!!!! FOOD NOW!" when around people.
