I keep 2 x Bristlenoses in my GF tank, but I think they are getting limited food as the GF eat their algae discs. I bought large discs so they cant fit into their mouths but as soon as they go soft, I am sure they gobble them up. I have a lid on my tank so placing a divider in the tank every night for feeding time isn't an option. Just wondering if anyone here expereinces the same thing and has come up with some solutions to ensure their BN are getting enough food.

Try feeding at night, when the light is turned off. This is when the plecos are the most active, and the goldfish will find it harder to see the food then. You can also scatter the food around the tank so hopefully the goldies can only get some of it before the plecos find some. You can also get a veggie clip and put zucchini or cucumber (with the seeds removed) on the clip, these will last through the night so the plecos can graze all night. If you do feed fruits or veggies, make sure to remove any uneaten parts in the morning.

Thanks for the reply Liz. Yes, I think feeding at night is the only option. Hopefully they are getting their fair share of food

I find that even feeding at night my goldies will smell the algae discs and go crazy for them. That just didn't work for me.
I leave a whole baby cucumber or zuchinni in there almost all the time. I take it out and replace it after a day or two. I never remove the seeds, they seem to eat them too. Cucumber is the one veggie my goldies won't eat so that's lucky, there is always food for the plecs. I have cucumber on my shopping list permanently. Zuchinni is much messier and I remove that faster and also the goldies love it..
Before I had permanent cucumber supplies, I worried about them attacking the fish but now I don't.
I also have wood in theer and they eat that. Wood is an important food staple for plecs.

That's interesting that they eat the seeds, I usually remove the seeds but next time I wont and see what happens.

I have lots of driftwood for them. I will try the cucumber idea. That's a great tip. I will post an update on how it goes

What I do is have a small hidey hole for the plecos that the goldies can't fit in. Then before I switch off the lights for the night, I insert my algae discs inside the hiding spot. The plecos get the food, not the goldies!
