Ok, so I have 5 zebra danios and 5 neon tetras in a 10 gallon tank. They have been getting along wonderfully. I noticed yesterday afternoon that one of my neons has a white/silver oval spot on one side. The spot is about the height of his body, and it marks up his blue stripe a bit. He still eats and swims normally. My first thought was that he got stuck on the filter intake, and some of his scales rubbed off, but then I thought that it could be neon tetra disease.

So, I did a bit of research on that ailment, and I'm still really not sure what it is.

Here's some pics, they aren't the best.

I want to know what this might be, and then what action I might take.

Help is MUCH MUCH MUCH appreciated!!!

I have poured over these photographs and can not figure out for the life of me what this is. Has the fish looked like this since you got it? If so, it might just be a defect in the coloring, which can be normal.

I wouldn't think the reason for the spot would be getting stuck to the filter, I have never kept tetras but they seem to be strong swimmers.

I am sorry that is all I can offer you for diagnosis due to my inexperience with the breed. My best advice is just to watch the fish and as long as it remains healthy and happy it will be just fine.

Thank you so much! smile.gif Yeah, I thought that the pictures might be less than helpful.... Sorry.

The spot seems to be going away, the blue stripe is filling back in, and he's acting perfectly fine, so I guess it's no big deal.

I was always thought Neon Tetra disease was a stupid name for a terminal illness as after further research into it all species of freshwater fish can get it goldies included the only fish that has the exception is the emperor tetra as it lacks the gene that causes the disease. smile.gif my two cents
