I will get it done this year..I will I will I will..maybe

That picture was after the water was in..before fish and filtration were really up and running. I can't find any current pictures that show the entire pond!!

Pond is 13,500 gallons. It is 29'x14ish (varies from 13 to 15). Depth is mostly 5.5 - 6.5 feet deep. One spot in the middle there is a large rock that won the battle of removal so that one spot is 4.5 feet deep.

Filtration includes one skimmer that goes to a trickle tower (uh..no pictures of that either..will have to get later lol) The other filtration is 2 bottom drains that gravity feed to 2 settlement tanks. shows one of them. Each of these tanks has a 250 micron microscreen. 250 micron is pretty small smile.gif Each of these tanks has a pump..one goes to 2 DIY sand/gravel filters at the top of my water fall. is from when we only had one of the filters installed and running. These filters are relatively easy to make and can handle about 1500- 2000 gph through each one. Yes the falls is still not finshed... I will I will I will.... rolleyes.gif

The other settlement tank/pump goes to a Bio-wave. I hope to have it feed either another couple of sand/gravel filters or a shower filter.

Next post..fishie pics

The biowave, the 2 pumps and the micro screens all come from William Lim. Great guy to work with for pond filtration and has some of the best and most efficient equipment available. That includes power usage efficiency.

really I don't try to figure it out biggrin.gif: Electricity here in WA is relatively inexpensive. I'm only running 2 pumps and they were bought as much because of their efficiency as their reliability.

About 30 fish..I don't count! Trying to keep it to 500 gallons/fish..but it's not working rolleyes.gif I do have a few that will find new homes next year, but a few are in quarantine that will be going in the pond this spring too! Right now it is koi only..but I've wanted to have a few wakins in there..just to see how big they might grow over a summer!

2 days biggrin.gif I now have an irrigation feed that could fill it much faster  It's a 2" line feed. When the water pressure is up it could easily fill the pond in a few hours. I have more than once overflowed the pond doing water changes rolleyes.gif

There are a few 4-6" fish in the pond now, but no babies. The filtration will get most of the eggs if they spawn and would go out in the filter cleaning.

I got Hoover last spring from Lotusland Koi Farm in NC. At that time she measured about 19". I will be trying to get all the fish out at some time this spring to check over and measure.

The pond was started in 2004, rebuilt in 2005 and has been up and running since then. I still need to finish off around the edges..and I want to add just a bit more filtration with either some more of the sand/gravel filters or a shower filter ala DIY.

wow! Frlop....where's the diving board? rofl3.gif

Pond looks great! Wish i had the $$$$ and space for that!!! Bet its real nice to sit out there and just watch!
frloplady
no diving board tongue.gif ..to shallow, but a gal that works here on the farm DOES go swimming in it to cool off in summer. The pond doesn't ever get much above 75 in the summer even with our hot day. Water volume helps with that.

Pond is under a greenhouse in winter..temp up to 45 yesterday after a low a few weeks ago of 39 coupled with some VERY cold weather...temps at night down to single digits and not above freezing in the day. I hope to start feeding in March. Last year was the end of the month..hoping for early march this year. I bypassed the falls this year and it's made a 4-5 degree difference in the temp of the pond over the winter.

Now that is truly impressive!! The pond is very pretty and those fish are GORGEOUS!!

Looks like a lot of work--but very well worth it I bet!!

GReat pics. Can't wait to see it when it's done!!
Tinkokeshi
WOW!!!! druel.gif

i really like that black and white one with the flowy fins...

*sigh* maybe one day i can have a pond like that too! biggrin.gif *wistful*
frloplady
Pond temp is now up to 51!!

fantail used to live in GR and was actually there for the rabbit nationals last october in the De Vos center.

Emily there are a LOT of ponders in AZ. A pond can be very rewarding and doesn't have to be a lot of extra work it it's built right the first time smile.gif
BeancurdTurtle
Very impressive, very nice. smile.gif
Callie
WOW!
so are you gonna like...go scuba diving w/ your goldfish when its finished?
biggrin.gif

Stop by on the way between Pullman and Seattle! I'm just outside of Yakima.

Pond temp is now up to 56. I am going to be working on the water fall so I can get the filters both back online. Don't want to get them online just to shut them down again to work on the falls and stream.

Hope I can get it to at least kinda look like I want it to!

Goldies would love a small pond. Minimum for koi imho is 1000 gallons and then for only 1 or 2. They are messy fish and like goldies need lots of filtration. Problem is they start small and 2 small koi in 1000 gallons look pretty small....but they don't stay small!!!

I was wondering about your Longfin Dragonfish. Where did you get them? There SO pretty.

Now THAT is a pond–what a koi pond should be! I love it. What an achievement.

I'm really interested in the greenhouse for overwintering. Do you get snow there? Do you have any pictures of the greenhouse? I'm curious because I've tried to come up with a way to build a greenhouse of sort for mine since we do get down to freezing in the winter.

Love the pics of the fish, too. You have some beauties!

Wow amazing pond! Beautiful Koi also!
