Ok so we get a lot of people on here who have fish problems but have a hard time answering the questions about what kind of filter they have and how many GPH they turn over. I have compiled a reference list of all/most of the commonly used filters, their GPH, and the size tank that they're made for. This way it's all in one place for those of us who are trying to analyze and solve some of the problems that pop up so often. Now you don't have to search the entire internet to find out how many GPH such-n-such filter turns over.

hi-d
awesome!!!! I have a whisper 60 on a 55g as dumb as I can be, I assummed 60 stood for 60gph should I still consider adding another filter?
Nickie
I would. You want at least 10x the filtration as your tank size, so you need at least 550gph filtered.

Great list, Liv! They have one like this on Pet Solutions.com and it is very helpful!!!
RYUU
Kool! I didn't know there was a list there. Now we have one here too!
small_ranchu
wow, it's a great list. Can someone pin it plz? smile.gif
Nickie
Yep, they definately need this pinned! It is so helpful! Now, I don't have to keep going to another website to look this info up! Thanks, Liv!!!

RYUU
Why thank you Golem! much appreciated!

Yeah I knew I missed some brands so anything you have to add would be appreciated! Thanks!
Nickie
You know, Aqua-Tech is a brand they sell in those tank kits. It was what came with mine that I got from Wal**Mart. Could we maybe add those to the list? They are very confusing in the gph as it seems they put different gph on different style boxes they come in! I mean, one store who has an Aqua-Tech 20-40 will say it runs 120gph, while another store with the same filter in a different box says 170gph? When I say box, I mean tank kits they come included in and the individual filters you can buy from Aqua-Tech. Thanks!!!

Just a little editing on the GPH and names, there is no such thing as a Penguin 280 or 400. I know that you mean Emperor, but not everyone will know that. Also, the Top Fin 10 pumps 90 gph. You forgot the Tetratec PF 150 for 10-30 gallon tanks that pumps 150 gph. Also, the Millennium 3000 which pumps 295 gph. There is an Elite HUSH 20, which pumps 105 gph. The WHisper 20 pumps 105 gph and the 30 pumps 145 GPH. The Whisper 4 pumps 350 gph and the Whisper 5 pumps 450 gph. There are more models than the 2 AquaMaster filters you put, and also it would have helped to put the GPH of the older Penguin series.

Regent AQUA-Tech 5-15, 5 and Neptune 5 100gph
Regent AQUA-Tech 10-20, 10, and Neptune 10 120 gph
Regent AQUA-Tech 20-40, 20, and Neptune 20 160 gph
Regent AQUA-Tech 30-60, 30, and Neptune 30 330 gph

Aqueon 10 100 gph
Aqueon 20 125 gph
Aqueon 30 200 gph

And what about canister filters and pumps for sumps? Maybe its just me, but I don't feel this thread is COMPLETELY thought out!!

Just wanted to clear that up.

This was just a beginning list, Daniel, not a completed one.

I was wondering i use a Aquaclear 150 for my 10 gallon and a Aquaclear 200 for my 20 gallons .. are these the older models???
Because that is what i am reading on the clear plastic on the top of the filter..
32Bit_Fish
Is anyone using a canister filter for their tank? I had a Eheim 2028 canister filter on my 125g tank before. They are quiet and powerful filter. Model 2028 is rated for up to 165g tank.

I believe the canister filter is the best filtration system for any medium to large tanks. They are quiet, reliable and doing a great job on filtering large amount of the water. They make your tank water crystal clean.

Wow, that's absolutely fantastic that you've compiled this list. I bookmarked it immediately and am sure I will be turning to it time and again. Thanks a bunch!!!

Here's some info I found on Fluval filters. These are common in the UK so this should be handy for UK members. I've converted litres directly to US gallons and rounded to the nearest 10. The bracketed numbers are what tank size the info says the filters are intended for:

Fluval 1+: 200 lph/53 gph (up to 10 gallons)
Fluval 2+: 400 lph/105 gph (up to 20 gallons)
Fluval 3+: 700 lph/185 gph (up to 30 gallons)
Fluval 4+: 1000 loh/264 gph (up to 50 gallons)

Fluval 105 External Filter: 480 lph/127 gph (up to 25 gallons)
Fluval 205 External Filter: 680 lph/180 gph (up to 50 gallons)
Fluval 305 External Filter: 1000 lph/264 gph (up to 70 gallons)

Hagen Fluval FX5 External Filter: 2300 lph/608 gph (up to 400 gallons)
