Fish are like human, some prefer them some will not like them. But most of the time, if you can, try to boil them (with no seasoning of any kind, just boil with water) to soften it abit so it will be easier for the fish to eat. Or there is another way. You can use a blender, blending all the fresh healthy food (that is safe for goldfish) and then freeze them abit and then feed them it. They like it but you will have to do water change more. Lol I have a thread about this. I said gel food but it wasn't really gel food. I had been feeding them homemade food only. They love it!

Lettuce
Orange
Banana
Fresh boiled shrimp
Cooked Rice

I blend them together, until they are good and completely blended. Then i freeze it not os much or you will have hard tiem trying to scrape off a piece to feed them. Then i use a plastic spoon to feed them! hahaha

Mine love peas, and all but one loves lettuce. What kind of lettuce did you use? Did you soften the peas and squash them up a bit first? Keep trying, im sure they will realise it is food!

my goldies also love brocolli, just cut off a stem (you can use frozen if you want, make sure there's no other ingredients except brocolli wink.gif ) and microwave it for maybe a minute or so. I just let them have the small green "flowers", that's the only part they like LOL biggrin.gif

Oh you can blend anything that is safe for goldfish to eat in it! Lol for the shrimp, I just boil it then remove the shell and then I just put in the blender. It will blended into fine small...well if you try you will see. Make sure it's nice and soft. Since my oranda doesn't liek to eat flake food, and some other food, sometiem if i put it all in and blend together. They will go crazy over it! Besure not to make alot though, just abit, enough to feed them for a few days. I usually throw the left over after about 3 -4 days, because it might goes bad. lol I just like making my own food, because flake food seem bad. My fish all ...floaty after after they eat the flake food even after i soak them.

whats with the freezing???

My fish are small, so I give them small pieces. I cook the frozen pea and slip it out of the shell. Then I nip a tiny piece off and drop it into the tank. It goes right into a mouth before hitting bottom. I get maybe 4-6 pieces out of half a pea. I keep trying to introduce other foods, but pea is definitely the favorite.
