I got a 5.5 gallon tank with 3 guppies and 2 neons. Last night i checked the ph level and it was at 9.0. Is that to high.

Wow! Yes, that is very, very high......the first thing I would do is double check your test. Do it again to make sure you read it right, etc. Then I would test the water coming out of your tap. See what kind of reading you are getting there. Make sure you agitate the water from the tap really well....if you can hook up an air pump to it, so much the better. Sometimes local water companies will put chemicals in the water, but once they are exposed to the air they will blow off. This can "sometimes" affect the water. The next thing would be to take a look at your tank. Do you have any large seashells, coral of any kind? These objects will often release calcium or buffers that can raise the pH......

Did you agitate the tap water really well first? Do you have any kind of corals or shells in this tank?

Do you have any salt water paraphanalia in your tank? ie. dead coral or drift wood.

i dunno i jsut went and bought soem bulls eye ph stuff it automaticly puts it at 7.0
