I officially hate acrylic (thats what its called isnt it?lol) tanks now! (Ok maybe I dont hate them but they always leak!!). One of my acrylic betta tanks had a leak and it took forever to fix and now m,y 5 gallon platy tank does too! It has been leaking a bit of water for awhile now but only a few drops per week, this morning I woke up and the water level had dropped by 1 cm and there was water all around. Im gonna be spening my evening today finding the hole on the tank so I can seal it. Advice to u guys, dont buy acrylic tanks! (r they even called acrylic? I might b thinking of the wrong word, anyway the plastic ones! lol)

Are you sure it's not the filter dripping down the side. That happened to me once.
Shamu23
it has an internal filter

well i have a 7 gallon..biowheel acrylic tank.. and i ahve no problems with it.. Mabie you have a dud..also do you move the tanks with water in them? Also do u have a airstone in them?
Shamu23
I have an airstone and I have moved it with about 2 gallons of water in it but I was really careful. Im leaving it for now unless it starts leaking alot again.

I have read on a lot of websites of ppl complaining about the acrylic tanks leaking easily. ohmy.gif I am "planning" on getting an Eclipse 3g tank for a betta one day, but I am so afraid of the leaking!!!
Shamu23
maybe get a 5 gallon glass tank? I really dont like acrylic tanks anymore, 2 of mine have leaked now and the first one took forever to fix

Phew! When I first saw the thread title I thought it was your buck n a quarter that was leaking! krazy.gif

I'm so glad it's not! biggrin.gif

Now that you mention it, my friend had the same Marineland plastic 5 gallon as me and it sprung a leak which I fixed for her...
Shamu23
it does have a warranty Im thinking if If maybe I should get it replaced but I guess if it gets worse I can try some aquarium sealant cause I dont have anywhere to put the fish if I were to get it replaced.
Nickie
I prolly will get a 5g tank kit in glass. I am really scared of acrylic after reading about how easy they can leak. Then again, I got a plastic (cheap) 2.5g tank when I first got Hammy and I used to carry it, full of water, to do wcs 3 times a day, back and forth to the kitchen and it has no leaks! LOL! Go figure!!!! blink.gif

i have a 5g acrylic tank and it is fine does not leak you can get different strengths of acrylic maybe your tanks were made with some cheapo acrylic as they are mass produced.

Most nickel(5 gallon) tanks are made out of cheap clear plastic and not acrylic. My Marineland nickel tank is plastic, not acrylic.
Shamu23
I've had it for a year now, maybe I should go check on it blink.gif I was away all weekend on a snowboarding trip with my friend then I cam back checked on my goldies, came upstairs for some reason and I never checked on my other fishies, guess I better go do that soon.
FishCrazy
i also have 1 gallon acrylic..no leaks..

I also got a 2.5 gallon all glass tank..for free..it is just really heavy..
Shamu23
yeah the glass tank r heavier!
swift
Nickie-- the 3 gallon Eclipse tank is all one piece of molded plastic, so there aren't any seals to become leaky. I really like it--PERFECT for a betta!
Nickie
OH! Thanks Swift!!! That makes me feel better about getting one!!!
Shamu23
my tank was supposed to be a one piece too, it doesnt have any seals neither did the other one, they just suddenly start leaking out of nowwhere!
