It should've come with instructions. You attach it to your faucet and run your faucet. The running water pulls air through your python to follow the water down the drain. This creates a vacuum in the hose and you use that vacuum to suck stuff out of your aquarium.
Make sure you figure out how to change the setting from vacuum to fill.

Down position for sucking, up position for emptying.
right guys?
Don't mess with the lever in the middle of the hose. You don't need to. Just either have a second person run to the faucet and turn it off for you, or tie a media bag over your suction part to keep your fish safe, and go yourself.

Make sure your shut off valve is open and leave it open. I run the end of the python out the window or door and let the water run outside.

oh that is called a siphon same kind of principal to get this one started place the barrel end in the tank and move it rapidly up and down for about 30seconds to a minute and it should start. Another option is to fill the barrel with water place your thumb at the other end of your hose and let the water trickle down the hose once this has happened place the siphon end back into the tank and take your thumb off the other end there you go for this to work when the barrel end goes back into the tank all the air needs to come out of it otherwise there will be no suction.
Another way which i not hygienic and can make you really sick is sucking on the end of the hose i don't recommend this the amount of bacteria in fish water is unbelievable.
(forgot to put make sure the other end of the hose in the bucket or over the bucket

That's just a syphon. It's not a real python unless you have the 25 or 50 foot one.
There's no need to suck on the end. Dip the big end in the aquarium filling it up. Then lift it up so water runs down the hose. Before all the water runs down the hose dip the big end back into the aquarium. Then the water should continue flowing.

I did like Dan said when I used mine. I put the whole length of it in the tank and let is completely fill with water. Then, keeping the syphon end in the water, I put my thumb over the small opening on the end and hung it out the window. The water then flowed out with no problem. Also, you need gravity to help. My window opening was below my tank, so the gravity helped the syphon pull the water out.

end of the hose needs to be below the top of the water level.
The Pythons is the best piece of equipment I've ever bought in the upkeep of my goldie tank
