Full Version: My Goldies First Orange Slice Experience~?

So tonight was the big night to try out my new veggie clip with a fresh orange slice for my hungry munchkins.
After clipping the 1/8 slice to side of tank I sat down on the couch and waiting for the feeding frenzy.
And I waited,
and waited,
and waited,
After 4 long minutes Fiona, my largest fish, finally realized that "the hand" didn't produce any recognizable food so she mozied over to the strange thing stuck on the aquarium wall. She took a couple of jabs at the orange then swam off. Both Lionel & Clearance didn't seem to notice Fiona at the orange and continued to seek out where "the hand" put the food!
Fiona went back up to the orange & started more serious picking which interested the 2 smaller fish. Unfortunately her big ole booty blocked the orange so both Lionel & Clearance couldn't get a bite in edgewise. So I broke off 2 sections of the orange and dropped them on the floor of the aqaurium. Each nibbled a bit but there was no excitement (no fireworks) as when I feed them other foods such as freeze dried brine shrimp, gf flakes, or green peas.
Alas the wind left my sails and my fish were probably more disappointed than I. sad.gif

I had a similar experiance...oranges just messed up the tank and the orange oil floated like a film on the surface and walls.

My fish love seaweed. I put sheets of it in the veggie clip. They go wild! bingo.gif

Well on a positive note, at least your tank smells nice and citrusy..... rofl3.gif

Haha, the last time I fed Moby and Florence oranges I spent an hour cleaning up the mess! I took the net and skimmed the pulp from the surface and had to clean out the filters of pulp and the white rindy stuff. They did love them, but then again even flakes cause a feeding frenzy for the little hogs. After the banana and peach mess last week I think I'll just stick to fish food, peas, and an occasional teeny bit of oranges.

I wondered about trying a banana, but after the orange fiasco, a gooey banana seems too much to handle. Fish food, shrimp, & peas is just enuff.

Athena gets banana quite often! It's a good thing to try, its soft enough for her to rip it up really easily and she'll suction it in and spit it out a few times. I just take a little chunk out of the banana(eat the rest tongue.gif) and mush it then drop it in to her. It's not even close to being as messy as orange, one of Athena's favorite foods.

I do water changes almost everyday on her 20 gallon, so I guess I take cleaning up the mess for granted. >_> But maybe your goldfish just don't like orange? Maybe try a bit of cooked apple( and cooled)? :]
