I do see reference to using fishing twine to attach Java Fern to driftwood - but I do not have any. Before rushing out to try to find some, I was wondering if polyester sewing thread would work? I would boil it in the microwave first, in case there are any nasties living on it. Other suggestions are also welcome.

You can use cotton sewing thread but it is only a temporary thing as the thread will decompose over time leaving yucky stuff in your tank it is best to use fishing as it is safe and does not leech any chemicals into the water some colour cotton does this. Fishing line does not decompose and has alot more strength.

I did use the fishing line, and the plants are staying in place on the driftwood, even when I move the wood around to vacuum the bottom. It's hard to tie the fishing line in place, as it is nearly invisible, but somehow I got it to work. Thanks, Dan.

if you wrap it around really tightly like several hundred thousand times lol and then put a knot in the end of it, it should be easier to do and you will not notice it once the Java Fern starts to grow.
