After Nickie posted about the betta on aquabid, it got me hooked on bettas LOL! so much that yesterday, i went to pet*smart and got myself a male crowntail had a big debate between this one and another blue crowntail, they were both so pretty. But I decided on this fella he's home in my 5 gal, filtered and lighted but not heated cause the room stays pretty warm. But if it gets too cold, i'll get him a heater.

one problem with him though, he not very active and hide behind the plants most of the time, and even botton sits should i be worried, cause i am LOL. this is my first experience with betta's really, but i used to have two betta's in jars when i was little, they were my very first fish! they died after about a year or so and i'm just restarting now. i never had any real experience with betta's and have lots to learn, so bare with me LOL!

Since you just got him yesterday, the bottom sitting and hiding may just be due to the stress of moving and his new environment (which by the way looks great!). Is he eating yet? I'd say give him a few more days to get accustomed to his surroundings.

Wow, he's beautiful!! I've been thinking of getting a crown tail as well, I think I'm going to keep my eyes open for a nice one.

As for the behaviour, don't worry just yet. Every betta I've ever brought home was very shy and lethargic for the first while, some even refuse to eat for a week or so. I guess it's from the poor conditions they're generally kept in I'm sure he'll come around soon though!

He is a pretty man. He is very lucky to have you as an parent. I love his tank. I have one of the eclipse too. When I get my tax return I am thinking of getting another 3 gallon one so each of my boys can have their own tanks instead of being in one with a divider. I was gonna say the same thing about the bottom sitting. he is just getting used to his new digs, gorgous ones I must say. I agree. You ought to enter him in the betta of the month contest. He would be a shoe in. As far a the heater you may not need one if you keep him in a warm area of the room and keep the tank light on most of the time. Just make sure you have a thermometer to keept track of the temp water and make sure it does not dip down below 72 degrees. Bettas tend to like warmer water aroung 76-82 .congrats on your new baby

thanks everyone! a small update, this morning before i went off for school, as he seemed a bit more active, and i tried feeding him a few pellet (soaked first) and he glurp it up LOL he's still not very active, but he no longers sits on the bottom, he stays near the top now. Thanks to everyone's comment, it calmed me down about the inactiveness LOL, i was starting to get scared!

thanks everyone! he's alot more active today, starting to come out of his shell LOL! he swims around the tank now and explores his little jungle, his fav spot is behind the filter though, where it's nice and quiet to get some rest. A little character already! I held up a mirror to him today and he decides he want to do some flaring to show off his fins My camera was being stubborn at that minute and refuses to take a good pic LOL! I also have a vid of him eating but that might have to wait till tomorrow

wow he's beautiful =] i never see any like him around where i live, this site has so many gorgeous betta pics, it's motivated me to get one lol.
