Here's some pics of my emerald catfish. I've nicknamed him Skeletor as a joke... wasn't a big fan of catfish before, but now that I've got one, I think they look pretty cool. Still debating if I should keep him or not.

I'd like to keep him in one of my goldy tanks, but I don't think he'd get much to eat after the goldies are done scavenging the bottom. Does anyone keep a catfish and GF together, and do you have a way to make sure the catfish gets to eat?

I dunno how to save food, but hes really is very pretty with his shiny golden color.

I did for awhile and there was no problem. But I had cories in with one small goldfish. Make sure you get sinking pellets--that way the catfish can start eating while the goldies are still looking for food at the top.

Beautiful fish by the way! Hope he works out and you can keep him. Most the emeralds I see around here look beat up but yours is great. Also, these cats like to be with their own kind--they schoal together in the wild. I have kept cories by themselves though and they did ok.

Yeah, I know they prefer a school... I actually 'inherited' this fish from someone else, and he happened to be himself. He's pretty big too, over 2 inches... unlike the ones at the lfs that are half his size or smaller. I haven't decided yet if I should get him a couple of buddies, since his future with me is uncertain.

I've noticed though that it takes a while for him to find food and actually start eating. He'll dig around for a minute, rest, dig some more, rest some more, hehe. No competition at all to the non-resting GF eating machines. I think the only way he'd survive with the GF is if I feed him large wafers that the GF can't fit in their mouths in a single bite.

Well it's worth a try! What a shame if it doesn't work--I'm serious that emerald is the best I've seen! I would adopt him from you for sure but I live on the west coast--it figures. I already have cories and upside down cats he could swim with, rats. I really hope he'll be ok for you somehow. smile.gif

Beautiful fish. I hope you can keep him. If not though, let me know where in VA you're at.

I'd think he'd be alright in a goldy tank, preferably one thats in a warmer part of your house. Just throw some sinking pellets in there right before putting some floating food in, and try and aim for where he's at. smile.gif All that digging he's doing is good though, he'll find whatever the goldies miss.

Im in Williamsburg, so bout at least 3 hours or so from where you're at. Check out my sig, you'll the tropicals that I'm trying to adopt out. Pretty much tetras and danios. One guy was gonna take em but never showed.

I think I will keep him. He's in the tropicals tank right now so don't have to worry bout the whole keeping him with GF issue. Once I get rid of my tetras though, I'll be considering moving a couple of my GF into that tank. I'll just worry about that when the time comes.
