So my 10 gallon has been looking a bit drab lately with just the 2 corey cats left and their coconut house. They spend most of the day hiding inside it and come out when the lights are off in the room...so the tank usually looked totally empty.

Thursday I got some guppies using the store credit I had from my platty adolescents. I wanted something that actually was visible during the day when I would be looking at the tank.
Yesterday I finally found a hood for that tank that holds a flourescent strip light. My old hood had incandescents, and I couldn't grow plants in there if my life depended on it. So new light...new plants!

Enjoy the pics below.

The text few are the best shots I could get of the guppies. They move fast!

I also moved a few of the shrimp from my 25 gal to help clean up after the guppies, since they seem to lose interest in the food as soon as it hits the gravel. THey have been playing king of the coconut all day.

Oooh, Liz, it is very pretty!!! I love the plants and the cute lil shrimp and guppies!!!! Maybe I need to try that one day!!! Are tropicals hard to care for?

Very nice Liz! The bright colors of the fish really set it off. Are live plants hard to care for? I have no green thumb whatsoever.

Thanks everyone smile.gif. I'm very happy with the way the tank looks now, and I hope I can succesfully grow the two new types of plants I got in there.

The frill plant (the bunch of plants to the right in the back) is really easy to care for....if you have a flourescent strip light, or your tank gets natural light. It is the only plant that has survived my goldie tank too. It will grow even if it is uprooted and floating around. This is the first time I have had java fern or the mondo grass, but I hear the java fern is really easy to grow too.

Yes the guppies certainly brighten up the tank. The shrimp do too because the females are such a bright red. The coreys have even started coming out of their coconut during the day at feeding times now. I think they feel more secure with other fish in the tank too.

This is my secons tropical tank. Besides needing a heater, and different foods, community tropicals are not too different from goldies when it comes to care. These guppies are the first fish I have had that I have to feed flakes to because they won't touch the food on the bottom.
