Which live food should I feed my fish? I have read the thread on veg, but wasn't sure about live. I could bring myself to feed them Brine Shrimp, but what about water fleas ( Daphnia ) or bloodworm? And how often should I do it? They are fed pellet food with dried bllodworm, daphnia, carrots and watercress as well as flake. But not at the same time!

Live brine shimp and earth worms are best because you don't have to worry about parasites.
With live Daphnia and bloodworms you risk introducing parasites. Freezed dried is ok.

I fed my fry exclusively brine shrimp and earthworms until they were around 3 inches.

I just fed live brine shrimp the other day, for the first time. I have a brine shrimp net and took a scoop out of the bag of live shrimp I bought at the LFS. I rinsed them off under cold water real well, to get as much salt off of them as possible, then gave each tank a big pinch. The fish went nuts!!! They loved them. smile.gif The bag of brine shrimp lasted for a couple of days.

My fish got parasites from frozen bloodworms. I will never use that stuff again.

This is always a controversial topic.....live foods, to feed or not to feed.

I will not feed my fish any live foods because the risk that it harbors bad bacterias or parasites is just too great. Frozen food is a lot safer I think if you buy from a top brand like Hikari.

Which brand frozen bloodworm did you buy Carebear? I think the Hikari brand is certified parasite free.

It was not Hikari. I dont remember the brand. Last week I gave the Boys some frozen Emerald Entree and my Moor Pepper came down with white spots on his tail. I treated with Jungle Lifeguard and he recovered. I am too afraid to use these frozen products again even thoe the Boys love them. I feed canned peas and Omega One small pellets that have been soaked in tank water befor feeding.

I feed my goldfish earthworms every week, talk about a feeding frenzy. The best is when two fish get the opposite end of the same worm.
