Lolafish
They make them to attract females.

Spooky used to do it all the time when I kept him in a bowl. He stopped when I put him in a tank. Guess he gave up finding a girl fishy! Actually, the tank I have him in creates a little water movement at the top, and they will usually shy away from that....so the real reason he stopped.

Oh Neat! Thanks, TM!!!

They make them to hold the eggs in when the female has them.

they do make them to attract females but there is more to it. Males build bubble nests in anticipation of breeding. During mating the female and male "wrap" and the female drops her eggs and the male picks them up with his mouth and puts each one in a bubble for safe keeping. They remain there under dad's watchful care untill they hatch. They will also build a nest when they are happy

Wow!!! That is so neat!!!! So, the males takes care of the eggs!!! Just like the male starfish does!!!

yup the male do all the egg an young fry tending. The female is removed after the breeding is done and the male has picked all the eggs and put them in the nest. He watches over the nest like a good dad and even picks up the occaisonal youngin that falls out of it's nest and places it back in the bubble nest

That is so interesting and SWEET!!!!!
