Full Version: Hillstream Loach In A Tropical Tank?

I had a small brainwave.

My hillstream loach is curently in with the goldies. This set up isn't great, for either of them - he rarely gets any food intended for him, and is probably suriving on scraps of flake food, and the goldies are eating way too many pleco wafers for their own good (although they love them!). I've tried many combinations of feeding times and methods but something has to change.

I'm getting a 10 gallon ready for harlequin rasboras andhave been thinking about dwarf corys as bottomfeeders, but would it be ok to put the hillstream in there? Theory being I can feed him his pellets and wafers in the knowledge that he will actually be getting them, and he will help vacuum a little (he is called Dyson after all!).

I've looked on as many websites as I can find about the temp requirements for both of these fish. The highest range I've found for hillstreams is 22-23C, while the harlequins are apparently ok with anywhere between 22-26C (28-30 on one site - but it also said they live 10-15 years, so I'm not inclined to trust that one!).

Sooo...harlequins and hillstreams together at 22C? The tank is in quite a warm room, too.

Yea, hillstreams can go in with tropicals. Just keep you water on the cool end of the range, and you'll be fine.

Brilliant, that's that problem solved, thanks very much!
