Okay, I am trying to get a list up of all the things I need/want for my 29g tank. Here is what I have come up with so far:

1. Emperor 400 filter
2. Crushed Coral
3. Air Pump (not sure what kind to get on this?????)
4. Bubblers (again, not sure why type to get or what I want)
5. Wrapping paper for background, prolly a pretty blue color
6. More silk plants
7. Some type of statue or focal point in the tank
8. Sealant if the statue is hollow

Can you guys think of anything else that I need? Or let me ask you this, what would YOU get for your tanks to make them prettier, etc.? My tank is so bare right now since I am having to do daily wcs; I really don't want to have much decor until those daily wcs are over with, but as soon as my tank is cycled, I am hoping to fix it up nice!!!! Thanks for the ideas!!!
koko
sounds good except i would have to HOB filters just encase one has a problem hun biggrin.gif
Nickie
Well, I still have my Aqua Tech 20-40 hob and my Whisper 10-30 submersible. However, do you think I need possibly two Emperor 280s instead of the 400?
Lolafish
Have you checked the sizes of the filters to make sure they fit your length? I'm not sure how wide your tank is. A 400 would take up a lot of room I think on a 29g. But I don't have a tank that size, so not sure of the dimensions.

I have tetra whisper pumps. I investigated a lot of brands, and that came up as the most reliable. I have 3 of them now. Two of the largest, and one medium sized.

My favorite bubblers/airstones are actually bubble walls. The kind with the suction cups that attach to the wall, so you don't have to worry about the fish pushing the ones that sit on the floor around, and getting food caught underneath.

I would go w two of the smaller ones than one big one, this way if you have a problem with one the other one is still there. biggrin.gif

You're gonna scare her into thinking the Emperor's break down all the time. rofl3.gif

I'm tellin' ya exactly what's gonna happen.

Conversation in her house to her husband:

"Hey honey, we gotta get a back-up filter, just in case, okay?"

"Yeah, sure, whatever you say".

"Hey honey, since we have a second filter now, just lying there, taking up space...what'd'ya think about another 29 gallon tank?"

"Uh, um....yeah, sure, whatever you say".

rofl3.gif

That's totally what would happen in my house. rofl3.gif
Nickie
LMAO! We DID have that conversation TONIGHT!!!! rofl3.gif He said, "Sure okay..." I am going to have to measure my tank to see if the Emperors will fit. Thanks for the suggestions!!! After I get my tank fixed up like I want it, the next project will be a 5g for a betta. THEN, I plan ongetting another tank and getting more fish!!!!

If you were my hubby, you would be agreeing, too, because you love fish, as well!!! rofl3.gif

Taking care of fish is easy, according to my husband, in comparison to taking care of a dog. I am still trying to talk him into a puppy....he's coming along, slowly........

Nickie I just bought a 400 for my 38 gallon and I believe it is a 16 inch spread you will need. It surprised me on how wide it was, but fits and works perfect with a Whisper 10 to give me plenty of filtration biggrin.gif My fish don't seem to mind it either and it is soooo quiet. I can't tell which is more quite the Emporer or the Whispers.

Wow, 16 inches, huh? You don't happen to know how big the 280's are do you?
Nickie
The total amount of space I have for filters is about 28" total. I was wondering if I should use one Emperor 400 and then keep my Whisper 10-30? I believe the Whisper filters 150gph, so I would have 550 gph total for my 29g tank. I guess I better check out how big the Emperor 280's are first and see if I can fit two of them on there... Also, for those of you with Emperor 400's, have you tried the bio-plates that Rick has for them at GFC?
Nickie
Sorry, didn't mean to post in the wrong section. unsure.gif

The maxium spcae on the back of a 29 gallon is 24 inches with a standard black plastic hood. 28 inches with a glasstop.
I have a standard plastic hood. I was able to fit a penguin 350 and a penguin 150.
Nickie
I punched out all the space on the back of my hood. You are correct, Hon, it is less space than what I thought. Darn! I am going to Petty Smart this wkend and I will see how big the 280's are.
uberleslie
i'm probably going to upgrade to the emperor 280 soon, and have been looking for it in my Atlanta petstores (petty smart, petty co, petty supermarket, and petty land) and can't find any on the shelves (not even like empty stock spaces where they would be). i've seen them for purchase online...but was just curious if they were going to be discontinued or something?
Nickie
I hope not!!!! I do know that PettySMart has them on-line for 39.99, I think. However, doesn't it always seem that you can't find in the actual stores what they offer on-line! rolleyes.gif I guess they just want you to pay that shipping fee!!!!
glitterfish
If you added another couple of things an order over $50 has free shipping! biggrin.gif
Nickie
Cool!!!! Thanks!!!!
Jack of Hearts
I never heard of Petty Smart. For that matter I never heard of Wally World either. You have all the cool stores down south.... sad.gif
Nickie
Wally World is another name for Wally Mart. If you don't type it different, the board won't post the name. Petty Smart is another name for Pet**Smart. LOL!
Jack of Hearts
I never knew that I couldn't type names of stores. Is this something new? blink.gif

Yes, its a code name for Wal*Mart.
Nickie
Idk, everytime I try to type Pet**Smart, it shows as VVVVV and Wal**Mart does SSSS I think. It is strange. I don't think you allowed to type names of shops and stores here so that ppl who may work there don't get offended if it is a negative post.

Yeah it seems to type rubbish. It was not like that before, because I clearly remembering typing store names in the past.

and don't forget to always, always add the online coupons! Google: "online coupon for _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _"

You'll save $5 or so on your online order.

See, I hardly ever bother with shopping online at Petsssmart.com, and have to wait for shipping. I just go online shopping, print my shopping cart out, walk muyelf into their store, and they give me whatever is on that chart for the online price, not the store price. I love their price matching with their website! heartpump.gif

Me too. I only buy something online when their store doesn't carry it.

I think Nickie lives far away from her local store though.
Nickie
I live about 45 mins away. Not too far, butnot a trip Imake but maybe once every couple of months. The Pet**Smart near me doesn't have many of the things that they advertise on-line. I am gonna check them out tomorrow and see what they have...
Nickie
WOOT!!!! Okay guys and chicks, I already made two of my purchases that I have on my list!!! I found a website called PetSolutions and from there I ordered:
1. A 15lb bag of Florida Crushed Coral
2. A Penguin 350B power filter
3. A Penguin 100B power filter

These two filters will give me 430gph filtered for my 29g tank. Also, they were both on sale!!!!! Whoo-Hoo!!!! krazy.gif I'm on my way to getting my tank cycled!!!!

Thanks, Liv, for the input on the Penguin filters!!!! heartpump.gif
kittyfiends
You could have fit the penguin 150 on there. That is what I used to have along with the penguin 350 on my 29 gallon. Thw 50 gph won;t make much difference. Good Luck!
Lolafish
I PM'd you Nickie, but don't forget the check valves for your air pumps. thumbsup.gif
Nickie
Thanks so much!!!! BTW, are check valves universal? I mean, does it matter which one I get to go with the air pump, or do they have certain check valves for each brand of pump?
Nickie

Thanks Rita! Well, seeing as how I am good as long as I have 290gph filteres on my tank and I will have a total of 430gph, I don't see any sense in wasting any more electricity that I need to. The only reason I am going to use the 100B on the tank at all is because I want to seed it for a QT/hospital tank. The 330gph from the 350B is plenty enough really.

They're all the same. Mine are blue.
Nickie
Okies!!! Thanks!!!
Nickie
Okay, I have now ordered my air pump, tubing, bubble wand, check valve, small baskets for my coral, 6 new silk plants, more river pebbles, and a KH drop kit!!!!! WOOT!!!! I got an e-mail that they were shipped today, so I should have them by Wed.!!!!
Lolafish
Sweet deal. thumbsup.gif

I've been debating whether to get a bigger/better canister for the big tank with our tax refund. I'm not sure that 1,250 gph is going to be good enough on it. I can keep my current canister on the 55 instead, to help with nitrates maybe. Girl, I got a serious nitrate problem now! They go from 5-10 to 20+ in 3 days! On top of that, our stupid city and their chloramine overdosing is breaking the bank as far as our RO unit goes. We just replaced our carbon filters on it 4 weeks ago, and they're depleted already!! I tested the tap over the weekend, and it's 1.0 ammonia and .5 nitrites! Be thankful, very thankful, that at least you can use your tap for WC's. Once you get your supplies, your expenditure is pretty much over. Ours goes on and on and on.......
Nickie
Oh, Hon, I am so sorry!!! Yes, I am happy that I can use my tap water, especially after hearing your problems you have had! sad.gif I may not have any KH, but at least I don't have ammonia, nitrates, etc. to worry about! blink.gif

I GOT MY STUFF TODAY FROM PET SOLUTIONS!!!!! Woot!!!! Gonna get to work on the tank this wkend!!!! YIIPPEEE!!!!! krazy.gif

Awesome! Seems like I am always thinking of stuff I need. Now I need a new lighting system, and have to make a new glass canopy, all for my 55g so I can transfer everything over to the big one in a couple of weeks. Where's that tax refund when you need it?

Yeah, I Know! Now, I want that statue and a battery powered air pump! My hubby got his W2's a few weeks ago and I am still waiting for mine from my last job so I can go ahead and do our taxes. We really need the money!!! LOL! We all could use more money though...well, most of us!
