Now, since I have 3 fish with dropsy in a heated tank, and I was not sure how long I have had the Medigold, I gave them some Metromed instead, since I am sure I don't have it that long yet, and its still effective.
Well, I went to Goldfishconnection to check out what else Metromed treats, just for the fun of it, and Rick says there, it treats Dropsy in its early stages!! I never knew that, so I did an experiment.
One of the dropsied fish I put in an 84 degrees heated tank, the other ones I left in an unheated tank at about their regular temperature of 76 degrees. I ran out of epsom salt, so there is none of that in their tanks right now. I fed all 3 of them Metromed, and here is what happened....
Heated tank - the ranchu showed signs of improvement in his tank on the 2. day of feeding him Metromed and the heat in his tank. His scales are down to their normal positions on day 5....
Tank at room temperature - both fish got only Metromed to eat, no heat in their tank. The first fish, a red/white oranda, showed signs of improvement on the 3. day, with his scales being back to normal on day 7.
The other one, a chocolate pompom oranda, improved on day 5, with his scales being down to normal again on day 9.
All 3 fish are free of dropsy as for now,
So, my conclusion is, that Metromed did a wonderful job on all 3 fish, and that heat does play a huge role in recovery of the fish . The ranchu in the heated tank healed much faster than the other 2. In none of the tanks I had epsom salt or any other medication, just Metromed.
And all 3 fish had dropsy in their early stages....
