So there I was yesterday inspecting ''Listy'' to see how much he'd grown, when I noticed something on the glass. I had to get really close before I could make out what it was! There was tiny white worms on the glass and in the water! I have no idea what these are...so any suggestions on what they are and ways to get rid of them much be much appreciated!

you can't move this thread if a mod or helper sees it they will move it. just sent a pm to get it moved
it is most likely planaria don't worry they will not hurt your fish infact they are good source of protein and can be fed to listy

I wouldn't be so sure yet. Grain's fish and tank are also infested with "tiny worms" and they are attached to her fish! You may want to check out her post on the 911/disease board.

yes there are other types of worms but she said they are on the glass and are white that pretty much tells you they are planaria just to be safe Pidge do they look like this. They reproduce asexually which is why you often find more than 1
here is a webpage about planaria

Ive been onto Grain's post && the ''tiny worms'' sound exactly the same as what Ive got in my tank. There are a few floating in the water now (just been to have a look) so im going to use the advice what has been given in that post. Thanks Nickie for suggesting looking at that post

Hello Pidge!
I hope you can get rid of your worms!! I am having a heck of a time with mine
Just for the record, I have never seen any of the worms in my tank attached to the glass...they are mostly wriggling on the bottom of the tank, floating in the water, or on my fish's tail.
Keep us posted on how your progress getting rid of these little worms is going!!

Maybe a photo could help i have a funny feeling they are planaria since you said they are on the glass, as i remember in Grain's thread they were doing the same thing as planaria but not attaching them selves to the glass. The planaria can come in on new plants if they were not qt'd properly i also believe they can develop over time from over feeding but i think that may be wrong. here is another thread on planaria it may give you better answers.

ILets see if what I describe is the same thing - about 1/32 of an inch in length - not really white - more almost clear - If that is the case - Mine are on the glass in the back mostly working on algae - I have never seen them attach to any of the fish - and they have never really over populated...

No problem! I hope they are planaria and not something dangerous, but I just thought you should be sure.

Planaria - these worms- are quite harmless and found in many long time established tanks by experienced fish keepers. They do indicate there is a high load of organic debris however so it may mean its time for a seasonal really thorough tank and filter maintanence effort.

I would get a photo but they are just too small too show up on them! They have only got to be mm's long && they are white. They are attached to the glass but there is also some floating in the water! Im going to do a thorough tank clean tomorrow && add some aquarium salt aswell!

I do see where planaria are kind of clear where as Grain said her little worms were white and you say that your's are, too. Wonder if it is the same kind of worm or not?

Im not sure weather they are the same either, as Grain said hers where latching on to her fish && the worms in my tank aren't going near my fish.

They are most likely planaria worms, They do not harm your fish. They come when you over feed your fish and the food sits on the bottom . My fish ate them off the glass and became a food source but they are hard to get rid of need a lot of scrubbing to get off.
