I thought Rubbernose Plecos were safe for goldfish.
I just got a rubbernose and I'm noticing suck marks on my
goldies slime coat. Any suggestions of what I can do?
d_golem
Nothing else you can do other than separating the pleco or give it back to the shop. Rubbernose plecos are generally safe but it's not 100%.

they are not exaclty a herbivore... bristlenose is tho! Rubbernose pleco are pretty much friendly but there are exceptions...all u can do like d_golem said is to seperate them ! i find that once u find that they have tried the slime coat ... u cannot get them to have second third forth taste of it ! is it because you underfeed your pleco??? sometimes if you underfeed your pleco he/she will try to find an alternative food source which is slime coat !!!

My rubberlip took out the eye of one of my ranchus, and damaged the sides on that one and the other, much larger, one that was in there as well.

What is that ?!?!! i've never seen... looks a bit freaky !! its not a fish is it ???they have hands and feets ! Will they eat the goldfish or smth ?? what do they eat ??

I feed mine New Life Spectrum.

They are salamanders that stay larval their whole life, hence the external gills and fully aquatic lifestyle. They would eat small ones, bu tall mine are too big. Every once in a while they lunge at them and may grab a fin, but no real damage is ever done. The goldfish learn to avoid them.

The 75 has 9 fancy goldfish, 4 axolotls (larges tis about 10.5"), 6 mystery snails, and a bunch of guppies. The filtration is a Fluval 404, 405, and a Biowheel Power Pro 30.

wow don't put any goldies in with axolotls i have a tank of axies they are fine by them selves but are extremely aggressive to other species of fish. Secondly your tank is extremely over stocked 20gals minimum per single tail goldie such as a common and 10 gals minimum to a double tail goldie such as a fantail. I give axies a fair bit of room they require 10gals minimum per axie as a baby when they are full grown they should be kept in a tank 20-30gals per axie. Mystery snails produce as much waste as goldfish and require 3gallons per snail, they also have different requirement to goldfish and axies they fresh fruit and veges bottom dweller food require warmer water and need calcium for there shell. Goldfish require 10x filtration so on a 75gal tank you need 750gals of filtration you only have 747 gals of filtration but that is fine it is only 3gals but the bioload your fish are putting out is too much for those filters

Sorry, not quite.

They are fine together. Maybe not in all cases, but in mine they are perfectly fine together. If this wasn't true then most likely at least one of my goldfsh or one of my axolotls would have some damage to them. And axolotls will tear eachother apart too, not just fish. They just avoid or ignore eachother. And they are nto fish, they are salamanders. "...but are extremely aggressive to other species of fish."

Those filtration requirements are not true at all. For people who believe in the flow based filtration guidelines(because apparanelty if the water is moving that means it is being cleaned) it is 10x tank turnover per hour. So that would mean it needs 750 gallons per hour of flow, not 750 gallons of filtraiton. If the water is clear, there is no ammonia, no nitrites, and nitrates stay under 20ppm, then I have enough filtration. More filtration wouldn't improve it.

Snails do not put off that much waste, but if they did, why only 3 gallons per snail?

Stocking is affected by a lot more than tank size. Water changes have a HUGE impact on stocking capacity. So does filtration.

New Life Spectrum is a truly balanced and complete diet, so everyone's dietary needs are being met.

My water is naturally very hard, so the calcium in the water is enough. The snails are growing like crazy and their shells look great.

i am sorry i am repeating my self but axolotls and guppies and snails all have different needs to goldfish. Trust me on that and snails are just as messy as goldfish they are pooping machines. I am not sure why only 3 gals but i will pm Koko and she can help you with that question. Axolotls will only attack each other if they are not the same size and not getting the same amount of food. what you said about filtration is exactly what i said 750gallons of filtration is the same as 750 gals of flow an hour since filtration is measured in hours.

I agree with you say about stocking but what you are telling me is if it is dependant on water changes and filtration. Is that i could put 20goldfish in a 10 gal with 1000gph.
