I agree, he needs to take his fish. He left the pond like that he needs to take them so u can clean that pond out... biggrin.gif

This is exactly what I was thinking. I'm like "clean it, spiff it up, use it for my own fishies!" banana.gif
Nickie
yeah, I just don't know if I want to buy a syphon just for a pond that I will only have for a year. I know I need a pond syphon to clean it really well. Maybe I can get a used one on E-bay or something... idont.gif

How cold is it where you are? If it were me, I'd be tempted to put the fish in the pond until your inside tank cycles. Although, I don't know if Hammy and Jaws are getting along yet?
Nickie
We have the craziest weather here! For the past week, it has been in the high 70's. Today, it prolly got to about 60 and tomorrow, the high is 46!!! You never know from one day to the next what the weather is gonna be like. wacko.gif

I saw a pond python for only 50 dollars on ebay about 2 months ago and it was brand new!!!! Thats less than my python for my tanks I think!

Well the first thing is to get the owner to take his fish and let him know ur not going to take care of them, then you can think about what to do w the pond, what it needs and all biggrin.gif

I agree, but I tell ya something: I was last over at the house on Friday. I will bet you my two fish that he has NOT moved those GF from the pond yet. I also have a BAD feeling that I am going to have to keep after him about those fish. I mean, if he does have a pond at his new house (this is what the realtor told me), then why didn't the owner take ALL his fish? Why leave those three? It has really been bothering me!!! I wish I knew what to do...
gardengirl
Maybe those are his "culls". Maybe he doesn't want them and plans on investing in more fish for the new pond? OR maybe this pond was overstocked and he doesn't want to overstock the new pond.......??? Just a guess.

Exactly what I was thinking. However, I will get to ask the owner myself Thursday afternoon as we are meeting with him, his wife, and the realtor at the house...
Nickie
Okay, update on the pond:

We met the owners of the house tonight and they are taking the WHOLE pond with them. Therefore, I will not have a pond now....Oh well... sad.gif

I'm sorry that you won't be getting the pond. Maybe in time you can get one yourself though. When you're ready and feel comfortable enough for the children's safety. Save up a little at a time. smile.gif

I wish you the best of luck in your new house, Sweety. 00001649.gif When is the move?

Did you ever get photos of it? Was it that mobile? Too bad. Oh well. Prolly for the best. Less stress about his fish. Although, it would have been nice for yours.

I'm glad everything is a go with the house though! You gotta post pictures when you get settled. I know it's a rental, but it's still your home for the time being.

We are moving the first week of Jan. I may get a pond one day, when we are settled in a permanent home.

The pond didn't look that big to me. It is basically one of those that you can get at Home Depot where you dig the whole and set the plastic pond inside. The owner told me that it was just a "temporary pond" for them until they could get a bigger one built. The now have 5 acres of land and she said they have a real big pond there. She told me that they were planning to transfer the last three GF to it during the X-mas holidays before they found out that we were renting the house from them.
I will get pics after we get settled. Hopefully, we won't be there too long. I really look forward to having MY OWN home again, you know? My fil is buying us some land and building us another house after the first of the year. The house he is building us is not as big as the one we have now, but it will be OUR'S and I can paint it, plant flowers, and not have as much house to clean as I do now! So there is an up-side to having a smaller house! jtmuch.gif To tell ya the truth, I am looking forward to a smaller house to clean!
Oh, I never got pics today because it was pouring rain...
Ranchugirl
Really too bad that the pond is going, Nickie - you would have enjoyed it very much, and your fish would have loved it too. Believe it or not, a pond can be easier than a tank. Especially with just a couple of fish in a bigger pond like the one you almost had, you hardly will notice any cycling. The volume is just too big to really have ammonia or nitrite issues, plus all the things that are in the pond, debris and such, actually hold beneficial bacteria in some places.

People tend to look at nasty ponds and see just that - a nasty pond. Well, some of them are their little own filtration system with bugs living in the debris and doing their thing. Then, when people clean out their pond and think its a good thing, illnesses kick in, since the bacteria got disturbed majorly. Or worse, you'd remove all the debris at once and take all the BB's with it. I didn't read that - did that pond have a filter somewhere?

Oh, and are you staying within the same town? Scott would have helped you if the pond would have stayed. smile.gif
Nickie
Yes, we are staying in the same town. I admit that I was shocked when the owners told me they were taking the whole pond out. I really doon't know what I am going to do about my uncycled tank and my fish. I don't want to stress them with the move, but if there is a chance that I can get this tank cycled after we get moved, then I want to try.
Shamu23
well, maybe if u want a pond u could get one of those small plastic ones for ur fish, i bet they'd like that!
Nickie
I am actually thinking about getting one like HIDR in her post in the Spring time.
