My pearlscale fry is now between 3 and 3 1/2 months old. He is about an inch long including the tail now.

Since his tank is in the livingroom my grandma wants it kept clear of the not so sightly (in her eyes) green algae that has started growing on the sides of the tank. This algea is the type that grows flat so the fry no longer eats it. He sticks to the easy to grab stuff growing on the plants.

I have a BN pleco that I have had for about a year and a half. This particular one is the first that I got but he is the only one that has not grown much. I do not know if he is a she and they stay much smaller than the males. Or maybe he is stunted and will never grow big. He is also the only one I have that still has 0 bristles on the head. He is about 2 1/2 inches long including the tail. This particular one is also the most docile and least argumenative pleco I have.

I want to put him in the 29 gal tank with the single goldie fry. This would seperate the docile pleco from his/her more agressive tankmate. It would also give a simple alternitive to scrubbing the algae every three days to make sure the tank looks spotless while guests are here for the holidays.

My first question: Do you think the fry is old enough/ big enough to have the pleco for a tankmate?

Second: The pleco is in a tank now with a constant temp of about 75 degrees. The fry tank is probably resting in the upper 60's. Should I A: just acclimate the pleco. Or B: Put the heater for that tank in and keep the temp at 70 or 72 degrees?

personally I wouldnt add any algae eater with fry, they are so small that the BN might not know and eat them...ITs better to wait till there a year or so old. Just my opinion. biggrin.gif

The pleco is in a community tank with lots of fry much smaller than the goldy fry is, and I have never seen this one go after any of the smaller fish or shrimp in there. But better safe than sorry. I will keep the goldie fry alone till he/she is a bit bigger. Now to get the glass cleaned off and the tank decorated for the guests arriving in a week and a half.

I kept my fry with 2 plecs all the time and I haven't had any problems as long as the plecs has enough food! biggrin.gif

That reminds me. When I do move the pleco when the fry is bigger I need to go get another piece of driftwood so that tank has one too. Hmm, and a veggie clip. The pleco would of course get veggie wafers to eat too.

you have a main tank if so what is in it?

The community tank I am thinking of moving the pleco from has plattys, mollys, kuhli loaches, cherry shrimp, and two bristle nose plecos. There is almost always fry in there from the plattys and mollies.

I also have a main goldie tank, but that one is a bit above fully stocked so nothing is going to be added to it.
