I got some bleach now to disinfect my fishie stuff, I was soaking my betta net and cup in a bleach/water solution before using it for the next tank but I cant get the bleach smell to go away no matter how much I rinse it, is that bad? I hope it didnt hurt my bettas but I just cant get that smell to go away, especially on the net I hope I didnt do something wrong

My hands smell like that too, cant get that gone either... could it be normal?

How much bleach to water ratio did you use?

Im not sure, a 1 gallon icecream tub with about 2 teaspoons of bleach, I figured that should be safe

the ratio is 1 part bleach to 10 parts water but i like to go 1:19 just to be safer

Im scared to use it at all now, it just nearly killed my betta! Maybe i'll add like 1/2 teaspoon, does that sound better?

When you are done soaking a piece of equipment in bleach, no matter what strength, rinse it out and then put it to soak for a few minutes in a solution with dechlorinator - a dollop of water conditioner that contains dechlorinator will do the trick every time......

I use bleach on the gates that I have to protect my fish from the intake pipes to the externals. I alternate the 2, so I use bleach as they get covered in algae which is hard to get off. I soak it overnight in the bleach solution, then rinse it few times and let it completly dry by the radiator. works for me and havent had any probs.

Yeah, when I clean my silk and plastic plants I use a 1:10 bleach solution and then once they are clean I soak everything in about three gallons of water with enough dechlorinator for 30 gallons of water. I always wear gloves too, that way the chlorine cannot get on my skin. It's hard to get off, and so much easier to just take the rubber gloves off and throw them away.
