I put a couple plants in my 90 gal and my dad is claiming that it is making my tank cloudy. Could it be?
FishCrazy

yes totally agree explain to him that your tank is cycling and it will clear up in a couple of days i have a fully planted tank i have never had the water go cloudy also since you have plants in there what lighting are you using and what type of plants are they?
Shamu23
plants should actually help clear the water a tiny bit by absorbing nitrate and ammonia

I don'y know what kind of plants they are, but for lighting right now I have two 24" flourescent lights

What is the wattage on the bulbs?
ConverseWithMyConverse
15 watts for each bulb, so a total of 30 watts. I'm planning on getting a new light strip that would hold 3 bulbs but I ran out of money, so that's on my Christmas list.

That's enough for a 30 gallon tank, with low light requiring plants. You'll need between 1-3 watts per gallon, depending on what plants you stock. I am still learning all this too. wink.gif

OK, so I need 90-270 watts?

Yep. If you do a little research online, you can find out which plants prefer how much light. They are categorized into Light/Moderate/High

1 watt per gallon would be Light
2 watts per gallon would be Moderate
3 watts per gallon would be High

yes that is the right wattage you may need to retrofit your hoods to support compact flourescent as as standard bulbs are generally not that high wink.gif
