Hello people!

I am feeling especially happy as I just won my lovely new tank on eBay.

Anyway I am confused about gallons. I have read that there are 2, UK and US and that UK are bigger than US. I didn't even know there were 2 different ones! So, I don't know what my tank actually is in gallons (I have calculated but don't know wether used UK or US sizes).

And so, if anyone can explain this to me I would be very grateful. My tank sizes, in inches, are as follows (not including the new one):

All length then width, then height.

Tropical - 48" x 12" x 12"
Cold - 26" x 12" x 14"

Thanks very much everyone.

Yup, quite true about the gallons - UK and US are not the same. (1 UK gallon is equal to 1.2 US gallons). Your coldwater tank is about 15 UK gallons and your tropicals tank is about 35 UK gallons, which equates to approx. 18 and 42 US gallons, respectively.

When the guys on here say a minimum of 10 gallons per GF they mean US gallons though, because most of them are American. smile.gif

Technically, we should be advising our fellow Brits to allow 8.3 gallons per GF.... but 10 is much easier to remember! biggrin.gif
