Hello all,

I was wondering if a single female betta would do well in my 37 gallon community tank. The tank has glow light tetras, danios, rasboras, peppered cories, and a dwarf gourami. All of them get along really well. My biggest concern would be the dwarf gourami though, what do you guys think??

I asked the same type question a while back, here it is http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/...showtopic=63631

I didn't get any females in the end.

aww why not?

To be honest I got really busy with school and never got around to it rolleyes.gif
But I was also a little worried about agression as everyone in my tank gets along well now, I didn't want to upset things. I only have a 20 gal and there are a lot of small fish in there, I think many more and overcrowding could become an issue. I think I may just get some good old fancy guppies instead. Will you be getting a female?

ohh I see, thanks for your reply smile.gif

I just bought one last night, she's in a 12 gallon qt right now...I think I'm going to give it a shot and put her in the 37 gallon after a couple of weeks in the qt, if I see any aggression I'll put her back in the 12 gallon which might become her permanent home. I hope it works out though rolleyes.gif

She's very nice! Does she have black stripes down her sides or is that just a weird shadow effect?

yeah she has those 2 black horizontal stripes; however, she doesn't look as colorful in person unfortunately haha. hopefully her colors will become more intense =) She also has some metallic blues and greens.

The stripes are known as "stress stripes" and occur along with a dullness in color if the betta is ill, stressed, malnourished, or in many cases just young. Judging by her tiny size and body condition, I'd say it's a combination of being thin and young. Fatten her up, let her grow, and I think you're going to have a big, red, beautiful betta girl. =)

stress stripes?? I didn't know that, I hope there's nothing wrong with her unsure.gif

I'll fatten her up for sure haha biggrin.gif thanks.

Here's a pic of my little betta girl I put in a community tank. First she was in my 20 gal with swordtails, a platy, gold barbs and cories. Everything was fine except my st male kept nipping her tail, esp. at food time. So I put her in my 10 gal with danios and they don't nip her but they do push her around during feeding. I pretty much have to feed her separately away from the danios to make sure she gets enough. She joins right in with everybody doing the "food dance" routine so I know she's not intimidated by the others at least. smile.gif

nice fishie!! thanks for sharing your experience, I really hope this works out. If it doesn't I've been thinking about maybe making that 12 gallon tank she's in a sorority biggrin.gif
