I havent used carbon for a long time, so im unsure as to how long i should leave it in for. it is to remove trace medication.

Yes carbon can remove meds. The majority of people seem to think that it only lasts around 2 weeks, beyond that point all it's really good for is maybe providing a place for biological filtration. I still like to add carbon to my tanks every now and then, even if I haven't medicated recently, just to remove anything that may have got in there by accident...cleaners, soaps...though I REALLY hope that doesn't happen!!

yer i just thought i should run some as i havent in a very long time and the tank is coming up to a year old. Plus i have some ongoing probs so im just trying something different. I dont extra media in the filter as they are full anyway, so ill just remove it after 2 weeks, i just didnt want it leaching stuff back in. Thank you for your reply.

Rick from GoldfishConnection.com recommends that carbon only be left in for 48 hours at a time-

Thank you for that link, it seems that there are differing views on how long it should be left in. ill prob leave it in another day or 2 then take it out. Thank you
