Fishy Fish
Hello!

I was "googling" Stress Zyme, Cycle and Stability the other day, and I found this product. SuperBac

My hubby wanted to know why there was no "instant cycling" kits for fish tanks, since cycling is so important. He asked an employee at PetCo about it, and she said that they had Stress Zyme and Cycle, but you needed fish. There's another story there, with her getting rude.... but that's not what this is about.
I already have Stress Zyme and Stability, and hubby wanted to get Cycle. I tried to explain that it was probably the same thing. He said it wasn't, because Cycle's label said they help build the cycle, and Stress Zyme and Stability said they help build the bio-filter. So that's why I was "googling" them, when I found that product.

I don't know if I'd want to try it... but I wondered if anyone has heard of it. smile.gif

I tried Stability when I first set up my 125g, and I had a couple of double stacked hydro sponge filters as additional media/filtration. What I learned after the first week of using it, is that a LOT of 'scum particles' (my best description for white muck) were compacting into the sponges, which would be released anytime I turned off the air pumps going to them. It would make the water extremely dirty, and doubled the time it took for water changes. As soon as I realized it was the Stability that was causing it, I stopped using it. I also took out the sponges at the same time, since they needed such a thorough cleaning after being saturated with Stability for a week. Within a couple of weeks of cycling, I was showing Nitrites, but I cannot completely contribute it to the Stability since I did bring over some BB's from my other tank in the form of ceramic media.

I know you asked about the other product, but this is the only experience I have with using an excellerator. I tend to lean towards doing it all naturally.

The only one I have ever had any specific luck with is BioSpira - and only with the refrigerated packets. This also only works if you can leave the water in the tank for at least a week (preferably two), for the slurry of beneficial bacteria that you add have to have time to attach to a surface before you change out the water - dumping them down the drain. If you have fish in the tank, you cannot wait for a water change, for the fish will be adversely affected. It is a tough call.

SO - YES, I have had a near "instant" cycle with BioSpira. I have used it to get a tank up and cycled in less than 6-7 days - using a fishless cycle and BioSpira for the bacteria. Then the fish are added.

I have never had any luck with any other product.
