Hi guys. Im kinda worried about putting Frodo in the pond next year cause Im already really attached to him and dont want anything to happen to him, my mom is refusing to get him a tank so he can stay inside so I just need u guys to reassure me that he'll be ok. I think Im defianently putting a koicam on my wishlist so I can see them all the time. How often do u guys lose new fish in the pond? And from what (like predator, diseases, overwinter, etc.)? Its so big and the water will be muddy I wont always be able to see them. Winter is really long here and the water will be very cold for a long time (5-6 months probably). I already asked okanagon koi about that and they said they'd be fine without food for that long, what do u guys think? The native fish species survive the winter, so will the goldies too? Would it be ok to place an airpump near the top so it doesnt cool the whole pond but provides oxygen? Sorry guys, he's very special to me.

i think he will be just fine Shamu, goldies are tough little critters ! ever since i started my pond, i have not loss any fish, they even survive though my 7wks vacation! they had no food or water changes. I'm sure Frodo would be just fine in your pond Shamu! will there be a buddy for Frodo when he goes in?

we have only lost 2 fish in the pond and never over the winter (even when the pond partially frooze) or to predators. We have a net over the pond for extra protection. I have put a fish in the pond last year from the aquarium and he has been fine. I know its very easy to get attached. can you see your pond from your house easily?

thanks guys. There will be lots of buddies for him and our house is right beside the pond. Were gonna test out a de-icer this year, hopefully it'll work, has anyone ever had problems with them? Im going to get the 300 watt one from Tetra
