I happened to find some plain geletin in the house last night so I decided to make my first ever batch of gel food. I threw a bunch of fish, blood worms, tubifex worms, and frozen veggies in the blender and hit liquify....nothing. Turns out the blender has something wrong with it. So now the smelly mixuture is starting to thaw/mix and really stink. I had to scrape it all out into a bowl and use a tiny hand blender! Finally I dissolved the geletin in warm water and popped it in the microwave...where it boiled over and made a huge mess!!! rolleyes.gif

So annnnyway, I finally made the food and just gave it to my goldies....they both spit it out all over the tank!!!! I'm hoping that maybe the pieces were just too big...but they seemed pretty grossed out by it blink.gif

The good news...my turtle LOVES it, so at least it won't go to waste!

Sounds like a concoction of overwhelming, perhaps conflicting flavors. Don't forget to sterilize the non-functioning blender.

what a mess! rofl3.gif We all experiment don't we? My honey told me I'm like a mad scientist with all the test tubes and mysterious procedures and concoctions. biggrin.gif

I make gel food out of unsalted, natural, baby food. It saves me from having to blenderize everything. I usually buy peas and use that for gel food, it's neater than feeding peas (stays together in the water). I once tried it with carrots though and got poor reviews from my goldies tongue.gif they don't like everything, and some are downright fussy.

Anyway have fun experimenting, and if you hit on a really good recipe, share it with us!

Hey Chickey, I never thought about baby food! What a great idea for gel food! Crissy, I think you were very brave for trying to make gel food! I, too, have been wanting to try it, but haven't worked up the nerve yet! LOL!

LoL! Everytime I give my goldfish something new to try, they spit it out all over the tank in little tiny pieces and they give me this look like, how dare you try to feed us this? We want our flakes!
Sometimes it just takes a while for them to start accepting a new food... have you tried giving them anymore? wink.gif

hee hee I got yhat same reaction with the carrots: They were not amused rofl3.gif

Hmmmmmmmmm, a large proportion of this food was carrots...maybe that was it. I haven't tried to give them any since, the turtle is just chowing down on it so I figured that's fine rolleyes.gif

The baby food is a great idea though! Maybe I'll do that. I'm dying to try again...but my poor sis has been trying to fix the blender all day, so I think I may hold off on it for a little while.
