Emily
hello... i have two comets approximately 6 inches each in a 40 gal tank with a large wet dry filter and a UV sterilizer... the tank is about a year old... stupid me... i usually do a 25% water change with stresscoat every week, but i've been in virginia with a sick parent and 4 weeks passed by... <tears>... now one of my guys is sick... curved and mostly laying on the bottom of the tank or swimming erratically and bumping into stuff... i did an immediate 80% water change and cleaned gravel, etc... took a sample of the changed water to the fish store and it's fine now... added aquarium salt... now just waiting to see if he'll survive... does anyone have any other ideas as to how i can help... please... thanks

Hi Emily,

I'm sorry that your fish is sick. How awful to come home to a sick fish after treating a sick parent. I hope your parent is doing better after your visit.

I'm not a fish expert, so I can't offer you any advice. I'm sure someone will be on soon to help you out. It would help them a great deal if you had the water test results - in numbers - so they can see what exactly is going on with the tank.

I wish you all the best with your fish for a speedy recovery. It's so painful to see your pet ill, and not know what to do. We've all been there... that's how we found Koko's.

Good luck with your fish! 00001649.gif

It sounds like you are doing what you can. More frequent water changes now you are home, a rinse off in old tank water of at least half the filter media and the aquarium salt should help get the water and fish back on track.
Let us know how things go.
