Well, his tail has healed somewhat, but overall, he doesn't not look to be doing so well. He used to have such bright vivid colors, and those have slowly been dulling in the last month or so. His fins are limper now, too. Could he just be getting old? How old to bettas live to be? I've had him for about two years, and he was already an adult when I got him.

We are moving very soon, and I am very worried about how he will fare int he move. If he is sick or just getting old, I hate to stress him out. But I have no one here to take him. I am so sad! It seems as though all the fire has just gone out of my little dragon! cry3.gif

depends on the conditions and care the betta has gotten. I have heard of some people having them for 5 years but I believe the average age span is 2-3 years. I had one that was 3 plus years and still o.k .when I adopted him out. Try some bettafix ( melafix ) in his water along with some salt and see if that helps. sometimes salt and bettafix will perk him back up. The 3 plus year old one I had got real sluggish ,quit eating and lost color. I thought he might be dying of old age and after I added salt , a heater and some bettafix he perked right up and was fine. could not hurt to try it

How much salt is safe for a betta? I've heard that they are a little more sensitive to salt that goldfish.

I put in what the side of the Doctor Wellfish aquarium salt package recommends. I have never had a problem with it. If you increase the salt you have to do it slowly over days. And remember salt does not evaporate it only gets removed with water changes

Thanks for your help Bettaqueen. Unfortunately, I think it was just his time. Trogdor passed away last night. He was a good fish, and he will be missed!

I'm sorry sad.gif But you are right, it was probably just his time...the same thing happened to my 4 year old betta, the way he lost his color and wasn't moving much or anything. But you gave him a great life, that is what is important!

sorry to hear about you losing your fish. cry
