So I go to the hospital last week Wednesday for a day and a half. I come home and sleep for a day. Meanwhile the sunlight comes streaming in through a window in the late afternoon on the Betta tank this time of year. Saturday morning I noticed a blush of green in the water. unsure.gif

Well I'm not supposed to lift anything heavy so I put off the water change. Three days later - and I have a green water Betta tank. I'm thinking I will do a near 100% water change on Thursday when my lifting prohibition is over. But maybe I'm re-thinking. blink.gif

This evening when I arrived home Zhao Yun saw me through the guacamole murkiness. He started spazzing all over the tank like he used to do - raggedy fins notwithstanding. Anyway, he seems to have more energy and pep then he's had in months. yeah.gif

Thought I'd share pics of the haunted Betta container. Just in time for Halloween.

Hope everything went well for you in the hospital unsure.gif good luck for a speedy recovery.

BTW been missing you round the board, been meaning to mention that, but I've kinda been scarce myself, hope the studies are going well, and interesting.

OH Dan please follow the doc orders about lifitng . I have known people to totally undo hernia surgery by lifting sooner than they should have . I hope you get well soon. I missed you too. Actually some green water is good for bettas just as it is for goldies. I have breeder freinds who adds green water to the bettas water. You should probably leave some of the green water in there. Maybe do about a 70 percent water change and see if it remains green but clears up some of the hazyness. But make sure to follow doctor's orders. Get well soon friend here are some getwell candies for you

In my case exertion in the first week can blow out a femoral artery, which means a huge hematoma or possible death. So I am taking it easy. unsure.gif

I was going to go with a 70% change. Thanks for the advice. biggrin.gif

Er... if it's an algae bloom (which it really seems to be) you're in trouble and I would really recommend changing the water as soon as your allowed to. Just don't overexert yourself. An algae bloom is sometimes seen as good because people think "Well algae gives off lots of oxygen and provides a snack for bettas, over all it's just good." But massive amounts of live algae also mean massive amounts of dead algae.

Dead algae let's off chemicals which in the type of quantities an algael bloom provides, becomes toxic. Suffocating your fish.

I know very little about bettas or most fish for that matter but I do know a lot about water stuff like that (after studying it for three months in Environmental Studies, I should know right?)

I hope your feeling much better now that you've had your surgery. smile.gif
