PM me if you are interested in signing a petition that is circulating in the state of FL to control the sale of Pacu's, and properly educating fish owners and retailers about their care requirements. I will email you a link.

Evidently people are not realizing how big they get, due to misinformation on the retail end - and then letting them go in lakes and ponds.

ahhh i see letting pacus into lakes is not good as they are omnivorious fish so they will kill most of the natural inhabitants. now i understand. you can have pacu ponds when they get big just like we have goldie ponds. it helps them grow heaps due to the size or is it illegal in the US because in australia they have a pacu pond in the sydney botanical gardens
Shamu23
what r pacus? Can I sign or do u have to live in florida?
Shamu23
ok, looked them up on google, they're cute! I'll sign if I can
Lolafish

In Australia LFS sells a native fish called "Murray Cod" Murray cod are capable of growing well over 1 m in length and the largest on record was over 1.8 m in length and approximately 113 kg in weight.

There doesn't seem to be any regulation about selling them in pet shops, but maybe becuase they are native to Australia, if people released them it wouldn't effect the eco system, however I have read on another forum that it is not good to release any aquarium raised fish into the wild, due to meds and stuff.

Yep Selena, it's never a good idea to release pets in to the wild. Even if they are native to the area, they may have diseases, or may be resilient to disease that naturally controls the population in the wild. Also, maybe not so much with fish, but pets in general may not have learned the skills to survive in the wild.

Oh, and for us in the U.S., that would be just under 6 feet in length and 250 pounds for that record holding fish. smile.gif

I'd been happy to sign petition send me the link please smile.gif Am sure its ilegal to release non native fish species into the wild as it upsets natures balance I know it is here in the UK.
Jack of Hearts
I will be happy to sign. EM it to me.
