They'll do just fine without food for a day.

In fact, many people recommend to fast the fish for one day per week (good for their digestive system)!

I usually keep my food for about 3-4 months after that i discard them. Then buy new ones.

They will be fine for sure fish can survivie without food for up to about a week untill you start noticing they have not been fed so dont worry about it they'll be fine if you ever go away for moer than 2 days or so then you can get slow release foods wich slowly disolve in the water just incase yu have to go away for longer periods soon..
