Full Version: Keeping Live Plants Planted?
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank

Ok I got several live plants & put them in pretty little terra cotta pots anchored in with small stones covered by a few bigger stones. I arranged them so nice. Then my goldies went to work on them. Each morning I have SEVERAL floating!

Is there some tips for keeping the plants IN the pots? Do ya'll use potting soil? Or just plant into gravel?

Any ideas are appreciated!

I had this problem for the longest time too. But eventually one by one, the plants would get anchored in to the gravel. What i have also done to prevent uprooting is i have put plants in polyester fiber. Make sure you pack the polyester tightly in the pot and around the plant. Then put some river rocks on top of it. i have found this to works the best.

I gave up trying in my 5 gallon. I did have some grass planted in fiber, but then the fiber would be poking up out of the gravel. *sigh*

I bought more plants recently, and they just don't have enough root to even bother trying to plant them. I let them float until they get more and can hold in the gravel better.

I have this problem, especially with the Cabomba (sp?), but I have found putting more 'stems' in together helps and as mentioned wrapping them tightly if in pots. This has worked quite well for me, only 1 piece pulled out since thursday, although the pot has gone travelling around the tank!
