My 5 mollies,4 tiger barbs,4 platies and cleaner fish all got ick. When i first noticed the had ick it was to late to get medicine cause the pet stores were closed and that night 3 or five fish died sad.gif . the next day we went and got the medicine but that night 5 more fish died.after that they all started to die off one by one until my cleaner fish and one molly were all that was left. Then the next day my cleaner died then molly. I am now wandering what do i do? How do i make sure the ick are all dead? As well is it the petstores fault because they sold sick fish to me and killed all my fish. Because it had to come from there fish its the only way.

I'm sorry to hear about your fish. sad.gif You got sort of an expensive lesson about quarantining fish before adding them to your community tank.

If you want some help figuring out why your fish got ich, let us know the tank size, water parameters, water temperature, how long the tank has been set up, how long ago you added fish, how long ago you noticed your fish had ich, how long you've been treating and with what.

If I read correctly, your tank is empty now, right? Dump the water, throw out your stones, and start from scratch.

Before you go to restock you tank, do some research and post back here. There's a lot of people around that could help you plan your tank to hopefully avoid any problems in the future.

Also, a little bit about ich. Its mostly brought on by stress to your fish from overstocking or a drop in your water temperature or other parameters. Unless you bought a fish covered in white spots, its unlikely that the new fish itself caused an ich outbreak in your tank.

o i didnt know it could be caused by over stocking thats probly what caused it cause i added way to many fish to fast. however that still doesnt make make too much sense because it was my black molly one of my new ones that had it the worst and the crazy thing is she was the last one to die even though she had it really bad.

Thanks for your help.

Yea, its weird. Some fish the disease takes really quickly, and others can live through it. When I first started I had an ich outbreak wipe out almost my entire tank when my heater busted in the middle of winter (I had gone away for the weekend, and came back to quite a sad state). One of my fish had it really bad, but he kept fighting and fighting, through the multiple treatments and numerous water changes. He was a little tiny thing when it hit, I thought for sure he wouldn't make it. But,,, here's a pretty recent picture of the little guy, still king of the tank (and he knows it too). rolleyes.gif
