What plants will work good in low light, I have a 46 gallon bowfront it currently only has a hornwort plant, I dont know what kind of light, a flurescent bulb that came with the tank, what other plants would do ok in my tank?

You also have to remember that some plants need special substraights too.

Anubias species seem to do OK in low light too - although as they are slow growing plants you can get algae growth on the leaves. Goldfish generally leave it alone too because of the thick rubber texture of the leaves.
Try to find out the wattage of the light as this will help you to determine/choose plants. It should be printed on one end of the bulb. Is it a single or double bulb lighting?

Your hood can only handle a certine amount of wattage. read the back of the hood.(not the light its self) It should tell you the wattage of the bulbs it can handle. For example, my 18" hoods can handle up to 19 watts. If it isnt much more than 40 watts, your best bet would be to buy a whole new lighting system. Ebay always has brighter lights and hoods for a decent price.

I never actually checked the bulb, it said 40 watts on the back of the hood. I guess i'll see if I can get a new one, but Im broke right now, so I wont be able to buy anything.

the only way to get more light is to
1) retrofit your stock light hood with power compact florescent. they are same size if not smaller than regular tube florescents, but light output is 2-3 times that. but it comes with a price. your probably looking at $100
2) get power compact florescent light fixtures. its premade so you dont have to take apart or build anything. cost more tho.
