Ammonia Level?
Nitrite Level? 0
Nitrate level? 20-40
Ph Level, (If possible,KH and GH and chloramines)? 7.2
Ph Level out of the Tap? don't know
Tank size (How many Gals) and How long has it been running? 10 gallon, 8 months
What is the name and size of the filter/s? don't know
How often do you change the water and how much? once a week
How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 bubble eye, 4inches?
What kind of water additives or conditioners? chlor out
Any medications added to the tank? no
Add any new fish to the tank? no
What do you feed your fish? sinking pellets and flakes, occ peas
Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt", no
bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? no

yesterday I noticed my bubble eye lying on the bottom of the tank. VERY unlike her, she is usually a darting all over the place and swimming up to the top when I open the lid. The tail looks funny, kinda to the side and downward. I don't see anything that looks like fin rot. Besides the position of her tail, she looks the same. What can be wrong with the tail, I am sure that is why she can't swim!

The tank is clean with water changes. I added salt yesterday and will get the salt to .3%
Any ideas? She won't eat because she really can't swim.

Do you have the ammonia reading? Is it possible he was injured on something in the tank? How much water do you change each week?

Can he move at all? How are the gill movements?

I'm sorry to hear about your fishie. Maybe with more information someone can offer more help. With a bubble eye, my first thought is an injury, but I really don't have a clue.

Hi Cher,

So sorry your fish is poorly, you feel so helpless it's awful I know having recently had a very sick fish. ill.gif

Well to try and help your problem. It's probably not the Ammonia if the tank has cycled. Do you think it could be an internal bacterial infection? It may need antibiotics. See what every one else thinks.

I hope your fish gets better soon.

I medicated the water and gave her medicated food.
She died this morning.
thanks for your well wishes

Cher, I am so sorry that your bubble eye didn't make it... sad.gif

They are strange creatures, and more delicate than other goldfish. And it still happens to me that I lose some of them, even after all those years. They don't seem to live as long as any other goldfish, and even with the best care sometimes die without reason. I had bought 6 last November, and only have 1 left. They were all by themselves in a 75 gl tank, filter intakes were covered, and the filters were turned down, so they didn't toss around at all. No illness to notice, no parasite to find with a scope, but they died anyway. The last one is big as a horse, also eats like one, and doesn't show a sign of anything. So far, so good - but they are harder to keep goldfish.

Maybe its the delicacy and inbreeding to create those bubbles, I don't know. It seems that the more weird a breed is, the more sensitive they are to almost anything. A bubble eye is definetely not a good beginner fish.

Again, I am sorry for the loss... sad.gif

Water params can get out of whack at anytime with a cycled tank. Be careful never to be lulled into a false sense of security. Things do happen. If water changes are done with the tap, you never know when your city is going to add ammonia without you're knowing, and whammo! You are filling your tank with deadly chemicals!! It's always a good idea to check params at every water change, if not more often.
