After raising the tank temp. up 2 degrees, my cichlids have spawned on the flat rock I gave them. biggrin.gif However the aggression level got high and my cichlids attacked all the tiger barbs. I wasn't home so I came home with dead tiger barbs. sad.gif Here are the pictures though.

The male cichlid guarding the eggs.

Both parents guarding the babies.

Ponderosa Power
YAY! They are beautiful, keep us updated!

I woke up this morning and the eggs were gone. sad.gif I don't know what happened. They probably ate them though. But I searched in google and it said something about the parents moving the eggs to a different pit. I don't know what this pit is. Anybody know?

Cichlids sometimes dig their own nests in the gravel, usually near decor. Look around the back of your rock for a hole 2-3" across, maybe half an inch deep.

They will continue to agressively defend their nest too, so you might want to remove any remaining tank mates if possible.

Congrats on the babies tho!!

[edit] Oh yea, if you can turn your filter down, I might do that as well. If you don't see a nest, you might check the filter.

sad.gif I hope your eggs are O.K
gollie23
Well I do see a hole about 1 1/2 inch wide near the rock. However, I don't see any eggs. Maybe because my gravel is white? We will all find out tomorrow if I see any wigglers.
AlteredByMyEgo
well, did ya see anything? : ) any eggs left?
gollie23
Nope. I didn't see anything. Either they ate it or the gourami. sad.gif
