Hello All!
Need your expert advise! As some of you know, I am planning to get a 65 gal tank in a few days. Once I get the tank, I am going to divide it. Jaws, my fancy goldie, will be in one half; Hammy, my small, docile moor, will be in the other. I would like to get both of them a roomie, but not sure what to get for each one. I know that it will be a while before I get another fish at all, as I have to cycle the tank, etc, but I would still like to be on the lookout for what I want when the time comes. Any suggestions?
Also, I am planning to use my 2.65 gal tank that I have for a Betta. Would that be enough room for one Betta? Lastly, just out of curiosity, why can't you have two Bettas together in a tank? Whenever I see them in the stores, they are always in a SMALL bowl and there is always just one by itself. Are they really "fighting fish"? Thanks!

First of all, 2 male bettas in the same tank will immediately kill each other, yes this is true! What type is jaws? Is he a double tail? If he is, then u could divide the tank in half and get another double tail for Jaws, if he's a single tail, dont add another fish, he'll need the space, with Hammy I would put another moor or a telescope

oh yeah, and a betta needs a minimum of 1/2 gallon

Shamu, what would I do w/out you????

You have helped me so much since I have been here!!! THANK YOU!!! Yes, Jaws is a double tail. I have Hammy's bowl right next to the tank w/ Jaws in it, and both of them seem to be trying to get to each other! I am sure Hammy is looking for a sweet companion and, if Jaws recognizes Hammy, then he is looking for some more rough-housing! LOL! I was thinking of getting another double tailed for Jaws, the same size. I would love to have a telescope fish to go w/ Hammy. Are they normally docile and easy-going?

sounds like a good plan! Yes, a telescope and moor would go well together, I have a moor too, he is just the sweetest little fish

, maybe u should get a ryukin or something similar for Jaws, I think it would be a good match. Good luck with everything!

What about Bubble Eyes? I see where some members here have them. I was wondering how my moor would get along w/ one of them? They have those at the lfs that I go to. As a matter of fact, it is the ONLY lfs and it is 40 mins away...if you call that "local"! LOL! BTW, the pet store is Pet Smart. It is where I got my moor from. My son wanted a Bubble Eye to begin w/, but I was afraid of hurting them as they seem very delicate. I know that I would have to have their half of the tank w/out any sharp objects and things like that. I have never had any sharp objects in w/ the fish at all as even though Jaws can see really well, my moor can't see that well and I was scared that he would hurt himself. I read on the fish identity pages all about Bubble Eyes, Moors, and Ryukins. I just want to make sure that I put a very calm, docile fish with Hammy as he was so scared of Jaws before I moved him and he almost died before I figured out the problem.

well, it is possible, but they do best all by themselves, so I wouldnt recommend it. An oranda might also make a suitable buddy for Jaws, and I would would go with telescope or another moor with Hammy.
