Bottom sitting.

Hello everybody,
As I said above, my ranchu is being w/ me for almost a year. Now I am seeing something wrong with her. She was bottom sitting since last Saturday, less activity. Her scale are sticking out sad.gif and her stomatch is getting huge. But she is still eating though. I am not sure about the color of poop since I don't see any poop in my tank. Please help me out in this battle.. Thanks

I'm sorry to say that your ranchu has dropsy. All i can suggest for now is to go and buy some medicated food and some maracyn 2. Since maracyn 2 can be quite pricy, you may want to put the fish in a smaller hospitial tank.
If he keeps eating, from my experience, that is a very good sign. if they stop, his chances may be slim. sad.gif
The madicated food i use is called Gel-Tek. I use the Ultra Cure BX kind. its good for bacterial infections like dropsy. It is also a liquid if your wondering.
Good Luck smile.gif

Sorry about your Ranchu Fred.

I would QT asap if possible, smaller tank, easier to treat and nice fresh water, for the swelling I would add Epson salt, I believe its 1/8 t per 5 gal. I would add both Maracyn I and II, many members have had good luck using both at the same time. And like Jon said, start the medicated food. Do you have the med. food from Goldfish connection? I think thats the best.

Good luck and let us know.

Yesterday I came home w/ medicine. But she looks active and has less sticking scales. Should I continue w/ medication and leave her a lone for a couple of day? Thanks.

Continue medication as it takes some time for a fish to recover continue for min of 10days to be sure. Also once a fish has had dropsy it is more likely to reoccur so pristine water conditions are a must
