Hello! I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice- I have a 10 gallon tropical tank with 3 very small tetras in it -however I've aquired a comet goldfish -he's really quite cute, and I'm grown attached to him already.... but I'm not sure if I could put him in the tank with the others? Right now he's living in a bowl (GASP!!!) and has been for 2 weeks!! Only because I thought I'd have him for a few days, but now I'm his new owner.... and I just do not have the space for another tank. He seems to be doing well with partial water changes daily - but I can't keep doing that to em' and I will not flush him! And I can't give him away because everyone who's offered to take him wants to keep him in a bowl..... HELP! Thanks for any advice. I'm clueless when it comes to goldfish!

Well. He really needs 20 gallons, but I guess in a pinch, the 10 is alright.

As for the tetras, I don't see why not. My two guys share space with a small fish of unknown type. It's in there to eat whatever little worms show up (those planaria things). They chased it a little at first, but they leave it alone now. I haven't had any problems.

wow - thanks for the quick reply!
I actually am trying to get another tank so I can have goldies in one, and the tropicals in the other...buttttt...since I just started it's running a little expensive and I've lost a couple of fish to stupidity, and I'm a little "fish shy" at this point - i can always put him in there (it's better than a bowl) and watch and see what happens.

How did you get so many tanks? did you start small?

Hi there. The only concern I have with putting GF with tetras is that your GF may eat your tetras when he gets a bit bigger because he is a comet, and they do grow quite large and are fast enough to catch them.

One of my friends kept a school of medakas (same size fish as tetras) with GF and they slowy went missing one by one sad.gif

I'm going to have to say no. Tetras are nippy fish. They can nip at the gf causing the gf to stress out. enough stress can weaken the immune system causing illness. Also these two fish require 2 different temperatures. Plus, they require 2 different diets. getting the different fish to eat their own types of food would be almost impossible. Also, as the person above me stated, goldfish get quite large and they may see the tetras as food.

I really would not put him with tetras, get a bigger tank asap! At least 20 gallons, but if u use logic u may realize how big these guys actually get, so I would recommend a tank of at least 60 gallons.
